LS2 Power holders...

Recommended Posts

so i decided to be a big shot and outfit my CCM Pro Tacks with the Tuuk LS2Power holders. i figured the extra length on the runner might help "increase speed" just as NBH claims they would do, and i really like the height and pitch of the regular LS2, so i thought it might be worth a shot.

i riveted them together the same way i have done for a countless number of customers, laced them up and walked around on them. first thing i realized is that i would now be the most annoying person to stand next to on the bench, as my skates would squeek and creak uncontrollably. the same held true for my skates when i was out on the ice.

a month after skating in them, i had to switch back to my old E-Pros because i found 7 stress cracks in both LS2P holders combined. 2 on copper rivets, 3 on the front runner anchor, 1 on the front post and 1 on the back post.

anyone else having them crack and squeek like me?

Sounds to me like they weren't a good fit on the sole of the skate and you had to put extra pressure on the holders to get the rivets in. That stress made them squeak and eventually caused them to crack.

I've had each the left and right holder crack, both within the first year of use. I was stisfied that both were replaced under warranty, but it makes me question the mechanical integrity of the holder due to the material selection.

I hear a sort of clicking or cracking whenever I apply weight to my right blade. Hopefully this doesn't result in the blade cracking :\

The Polycarbonate LS2P is stiffer than the Nylon LS2 (higher modulus material). A higher modulus material isn't necessarily more resistant to cracking though.

Since the LS2Power holder came out in May 06, we have done very little repair work on broken holders in our shop. In case of a problem, I stocked holders for repair but hardly needed them. What about you Brandon? Have you had to do many LS2Power holder repair/replacements?

I have had to do one set. I have noticed quite a few with the fractures in them (they kinda look like cracks in the ice) and most people have continued to skate on thme without problems.

It might just be that your right blade is loose.

From my personal experience I have yet to encounter any problems with the ls2 powers in the 9 months that i have been wearing my one90s

don't get me wrong, i COULD have continued to use them, but i obviousy don't want to be out on the ice and run the risk of my holder exploding on me, which, by the way, I JUST SAW HAPPEN 2 HOURS AGO DURING A PRACTICE. one of my buddies skating on Supreme 70s was crossing over hard behind the net, but washed out because his right LS2P snapped at BOTH posts.

i've done 4 replacements at my shop, usually with customers looking to get the regular LS2 or the C+ holders. I doesn't look like i'm the only one...

by the way, i've done dozens of rivet replacements and switch-outs in the past, and i've never had an issue with putting too much pressure on the lever. true, some of my cracks did form at the rivets, but 5 of the 7 formed around the posts and the front runner anchor. i think the fact that NBH is switching back to the regular polymer on next year's One95 and 75s, is a telling tale of how well people have responded to the LS2P.

I wasn't questioning your ability. I just know that they are easier to crack since they don't flex as much as the white holders. The cracking issue as well as the fact that they are pretty "gay" looking with the purple/sparkles are definitely the two leading factors why they are reverting to the white. I don't know too many people that will argue that the One90 is uglier with a white holder.

NBH is keeping the longer LS2Power blade in the "new" white holder for 08. I liked the longer runner a lot but the holder was too stiff on my ONE90. I did take it off and put on the LS2 holder from my XX after 4 months. I look forward to using the longer runner again with the feel of the LS2 white holder.

No problems at all seen with the holder. None broken. Never had to repair or replace one. The steel is a different story. Terrible breakage, with many breaking where the bolt head attaches.

I have also had trouble with the steel. Most split right down the center or where Jimmy said, right where the hardware goes.

although this problem hasn't occurred on my skates, i have dealt with 2 different customers with the same problem.

btw, lb33, i wasn't taking offence, lol. but you're right, i think the harder polymer of the LS2P definitely does have something (if not everything) to do with the cracking at the rivets, as i haven't seen anything similar happen on the regular white polymer. some stretched holes here and there, but no breakages to speak of.

When I had mine on my 735's the cracked and squeeked like crazy. I was told it was the Lexan material rubbing against the outsole.

Just look at it this way - a wheel made out of wood will squeak a lot more than one made of rubber. Certain materials can handle vibration better as well as the softness/hardness of the material.

Well, after slipping all over the ice tonight, I unlaced my skate only to find that a substantial chunk of steel was missing from the heel of my skate. The chunk is at the very back end, right up to where it looks like the steel mounts to the holder. I bought these in July, so hopefully they'll be under warranty, but I don't have my original receipt. Do I contact my LHS or NBH about this?

Is it tru that the new LSP holes will match the LS2 that come on Vapor XXXX for example?

I just want to know because I'm thinking of getting Vapoprs but I like the LSP so I would like to swap without drilling

the rivet holes should line up properly, but only if done carefully. i've switched out a few LSPs for regular LS2 holders in the past without having to re-drill, so it should definitely work. but if i were you, i'd wait until Tuuk releases their new LSP-length LS2 holders next year. just have your steel contoured for longer running surface in the meantime.
