Zorbium was going to be the core of the Hefter helmet. Found out that it just won't work in a hockey setting.

Justin posted about Mission's experience w/ d3o and same thing.

Do you have any more details about why zorbium wasn't appropriate for hockey?

Also, any suggestions on how to find Justin's posts? "D3O" isn't very search-friendly.

In addition to what JR said, zorbium is some sort of wonder-foam that's being applied in military helmets. I can't remember off the top of my head what the interesting properties are, but you can try googling 'zorbium' or 'team wendy'. Edit: zorbium can sustain multiple impacts (a property EPP, expanded polypropylene, lacks), I think.

D3O is a 'smart' flexible foam that hardens upon impact and then returns back to its flexible state. It's being used in slalom skier suits, snowboarder beanies, soccer goalie gloves.
