DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 From the Sunday column of Mike Lupica in the New York Daily News"And finally today, a goodbye to Tom (The Bomb) Barnwell, who died the other day after a long and brave fight against kidney disease. If you ever walked through the door at Mike Cosby's store at the Garden, or spent time around the Rangers and Islanders in the old days, you know who Tommy Barnwell was:A friend in hockey, a friend in sports and to sports in our city. One of the good guys.He will be missed."The first time I was in Cosby's was about 68 or so. I don't know if he was there then. That was when Cosby's was on street level until the Puerto Rican Nationals set off the bomb near their shop. Then Cosby's moved upstairs where they have been ever since. Tom was there every game night I ever walked into Cosby's standing near the front entrance since that move from the street level location. He always wore a white shirt and a tie. It was the Cosby dress code back when then there was one in America that was proper. He was always a smiling face at the door. RIP, Tom Barnwell. Keith 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Every once in a blue moon something freaking shocking (as in shocking awesome) turns up on the shelves. It's like they reach into a vortex and pull stuff out of it you were dead positive didn't exist anymore. It would be damn funny if you happened to break a convex aluminum you bought from cosby's and could actually produce a valid 30 day receipt to easton that you paid what cosby's wanted for the thing. Last time I was there I swear I saw a pro stock mactavish vic wood! The even have the original Christian aluminums with "say no to drugs!!" on the side. Somewhere along the line, the shop just lost the will to be great. Up until 99 or so you could walk in there and buy cutting edge stuff. The biggest complaint I have are the prices. I would have bought about a dozen diff sticks there over the last several years if they only charged fair prices for a LHS, let alone in general.
