Easton S15 Questions

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a pair of Easton S15. Nobody carries them in town, so I had to order them online, sight unseen. First thing I noticed was a lack of literature inside the box. Maybe my pair had been tried on before, but I figured there would have at least been some sort of brochure or something to describe baking...?

So, tried them on. Very comfortable in the width, but my toes are just at the end of the toecaps. This is typically the way I have bought skates my entire life, since they tend to stretch during break-in. But these skates are constructed differently, so I'm not sure how to size myself. If I bake these things, will they stretch in the toes at all? I'm afraid a 1/2 size up will be too big.

Also, what are the baking instructions for these babies? I'll be taking them into my LHS tomorrow and paying for their baking/sharpening services.

as far as i know the length should virtually stay the same even after baking because of the runner holding it in place

the baking is for getting as much zero negative space around your foot minimizing or all out eliminating break in periods

talk to the guys at the LHS and see what they have to say

if they do not carry the skate you might want to find someone who does have some experiences with the skate so then you get piece of mind after spending the dough for those sweet sweet ice chariots for your feet :P

im not sure if all skates are the same for baking...infact i would bet they are not

let me know how they are cuz i am very interested in those being the next pair i buy

what were your old skates?

The heel pockets of the boots will compress as they break in and actually give you a little more room for length.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'm afraid I might have the wrong size since I went a half-size down from my Vapor XXX. I did this since the boot has more volume.

Think I'll just wear them around the house some before deciding whether to bake them or not.

they are a great skate, by far eastons best entry into the skate market. when you bake them you will get a little more room for your toes as the achilles area will form more to the shape of your foot and thus allow your heel to be a little further back. the only problems i have had with mine are purely cosmetic, the crap they put on the toecap begins to come right off after a few weeks wear, so id advise putting protectoe or something similar on the toecaps. other than that it has been an excellent skate for me...light as a feather and not painfully stiff as eastons boots in the past have been.

I know these skates have coil technology and you can feel it when you just try them on in the store now is it in the boot or is it the boot and holder combo like if you switch to ls2 or pitch 3 will you still be able to feel the kind of jumpy feel? just curious and any help would be greatly appricated?

I've had mine since June and love them. As for feeling the coil tech. in the store the answer is NO. However you will feel it on the ice when you start to stride with power. You'll almost have to take a lesser stride to go at the same pace that you are use to. I have to say that this was my observation when first skating in them. I also have to add that I'm 215lbs. and I think that had something to do with the weight transfer to enhance in the coil tech. Yes I do have LS'2 on them as well. Best skates I've ever worn.

I have S15's with LS2's on them also. I can notice there is a "jump" whenever you push off. I thought I felt it more with the LS2's than I did when the Razors were on the skate. They're definatley an awesome skate. Also the most comfortable skate I've ever worn too.

I could've sworn that I was told that the S15 was going to be their dominant skate for the next year or so. Or so I was told by my rep, but hey!

Great Skate and yes they are very comfortable however the durability is atrocious. As mentioned earlier the toe cap material ripped as on me as well and I have had parts of the skate come loose. Specifically where parts of the boot are glued down.

A little disappointed as I do not think that these skates will last a year.

I'm on the ice about 3 times a week.

I have had mine since June and also skate hard 3 times a week. My S15's have been great short of a few scratches here and there and the toe cap material scraping off in places. But how soon people forget that your skates are the second most used and abused piece of equipment other than a stick. They get hit by pucks, boards, other skates as well as sticks. Yes the toecap material will scratch up and frey just like the old toe cap material on past Bauer and CCM skates. However it does not take away from the protection. Who cares as long as the skates still work the way they were intended. Skates that look new are like a new pair of sneakers. They just dont look right.
