Petey21 1 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 You have probably seen many questionable and/or lame calls by referees during the years. Now see this, the Mother of lame calls. It happened this weekend during a junior game in Sweden. The referee skates backwards, bumps into a player and falls, and gives the player a game misconduct plus an additional one-game suspension for "Abuse of officials". Patrick67 1 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 Terrible call, ref must have felt ridiculed by the spectators during the match since he took the incident waaay to personal. If the D-man had skated directly to him and helped him up, the ref probably wouldn't have acted at all. tiki21 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 it looked like the player knocked the ref over, and just skated away.. its too hard to judge from that video if it was on purpose or not..
althoma1 574 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 Completely incidental contact. The ref should have consulted with his linesmen at the very least to see what he thought before tossing the guy. At least it was on tape - hopefully the victim of the terrible call could at least show the league the tape and get the 1 game suspension lifted...although most leagues don't like reverse calls made by refs no matter how bad they were. hunterphfr 12 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 Can't see the video, computers at the station don't have flash on them. But from the sounds of it exact same thing happened to a buddy of mine in our beer league last season. He was playing D skating backwards through the neutral zone as play was transitioning into our end, with no one behind him but the ref. On the centre side of the offside circle he skated backwards into the ref knocking him to the ice. Ref gets up blows the whistle and ejected him from the game. The Stranger 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 They bumped skates, his stick is at his waist. But I agree it does look like he gestured apologetically.
Hazard14 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 upon further inspection you are correct!the heel of the refs skate hit the toe of the player
kosydar 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 Same exact call happened to me my senior year. The worst part about it was that I got kicked out of the tournament we were playing in.
Jake 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 Who knows what the player said after the ref fell. Maybe he was apologetic, maybe not.
bpmd210 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 "Who knows what the player said after the ref fell. Maybe he was apologetic, maybe not."I agree. We have no idea what happened before or after the "incidental" contact. I can make any contact look like an accident.
Abubaca 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 Yeah, no way to know what happened. Not saying it was on purpose, but it's certainly possible. Didn't look like it, but you just don't know.
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 A prime example of where tossing out the "Stripes, behind you" could have saved this kid some grief.
chk hrd 164 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 this weekend my son's team (Bantam AA) was playing. 2 Kids are going down the boards battling for the puck, one kid lifts the other kids head and the kid whose stick got lifted hit the linesmen (who was skating backwards next to them and was pretty much pinching them along the boards) in the side of the head. The linesman who was maybe 20 snaps and calls our kid for high sticking him, grabs him and starts yelling at the kid for hitting him in the side of the head. The entire time he is yelling the kids stick is hanging from his helmet because it was caught in his strap.
