Smelly Gloves

Recommended Posts

i have a question, when i air dry my gloves so they dont stink, the palm gets really stale and crusty and hard, so i end up having to hold em under a tap before practice and games, i kno people say baseball glove stuff, but i live in switzerland and that isnt available to me, any recomendations?

Shaving cream with Lanolin. Work it into the palms and it will soften them up.

The other day I was thinking about some sort of wicking glove liner. Like under armour or something. At worst, your skin isn't touching the glove and it would cut down on the moisture going into the glove. Although, nothing will prevent any from getting into the glove. Thus drying is still necessary... but maybe not as long. Maybe some sort of anti-bacterial material like in the higher end elbow pads.

Bauer has been doing this for years. The liners for all the top end gloves since the XX are Nike Dri-fit. If anything, it makes the gloves stink worse for some reason. While it does wick the moisture away from your hand to the liner, it seems to not do anything about the bacteria that make it actually stink.

The best gloves I have ever seen were the all goat skin eagles I had (H34 originals, which are now the G70). You absolutely could NOT get them to stink, it was unreal. After a year of usage they still smelled literally brand new. Expensive as hell, but definitely worth it.

I also got some of that Funk Free last night on the way home. I was pretty impressed! It definitely works as advertised. It cleaned up my ultra stinky vapor xx's literally seconds after spraying them.

a old fashioned wash...

bucket of water, liquid laundry detergent, scrubing brush.

just wash them.. pour generous amounts of liquid soap in the gloves and on the palms, and scrub away..

rinse, get a clean bucket of water, soap and add bleach, let soak over night.

make sure the gloves stay submersed.. no easy feat...

rinse the next day..

i have washed several pairs syntheic leather gloves this way..

eagles.. eastons..

always works...

you can follow these instructions for pretty much any hockey equipment..

do a spot check first to make sure the bleach doesn't discolor anything..

What am I doing wrong? When I used lanolin shaving cream, my gloves were left with a slippery film on the palm.

Best way is to prevent it. Been using washing my hands before games and then getting a hit of hand sanitizer just before putting them on. They go into the shock doctor bag when done - no issues yet, knock on wood.

I practice this as well (without the bag, but air them out after every game), and it's been held in check FWIW.

I actually put Doc Marten's shoe leather polish on the palms of my gloves. It also has lanolin in it and seems to work just fine.
