does anyone know where i can get a large, fairly good detailed digital pictures of the 1980 team? i'm looking for a good quality digital picture of the team celebrating. most the ones i find on the internet are very small. i'm sure there are larger ones out there, but don't know where to look. i want to use this as a background on my computer. the one below is the biggest i could find. thanks.

Well, judging by the fact that they didn't have digital cameras in 1980, my guess would be no.

you ever heard of a digital scanner? how do you think i posted the pic above? it is absolutely possible to scan an old picture in high quality. i've done it myself.

Scanning with the best scanner in the world but it will still get grainy when you blow it up.

with a high quality scanner, you can scan an original picture and the human eye cannot tell the difference between the scanned picture and the actual picture.

edit: i'm not talking about scanning a small picture and blowing it up. i'm talking about scanning a large original picture with a quality scanner. i'd bet my house on it that they are out there in digital form - there were tons of pics taken by proffesional photographers. its just a matter of if anyone has put it on the web, full size, where anyone can download it for free.

With a pretty good original pic, and a pretty good scanner (doesn't have to be "great") you can get pretty large digital pics just as good as digital. Which I guess technically at that point they ARE digital, but you know what I mean. ...and with even a smidge of photochop know how, any noise, grain and pixelation can be hidden or removed.

hehe, ask me how I know. Let's just say hockey is just my hobby. LOL B)

Hey! Here's an idea.... find out the original photographer of a picture you like, contact them and/or look for an online outlet of the original and actually (wait, this may be hard to comprehend) BUY a repo of the original rather than looking for a freebie... that way the pic wont suck, you'll have an actual piece of art/journalism and feel better about yourself knowing you actually paid for someone's talent...

hmmm, google seemed to have found Heinz Kluetmeier rather quickly. He owns the copyright, but I'm not sure if you have to go through Sports Illustrated for the photo, or Kluetmeiers agency that handles his photos, and I don't know who that is.

or get a print off ebay.

it took a few minutes on google to find several prints. But if you want a big free version, you probably won't find one. People like to protect their work usually.
