Went there twice. First time they refused to sharpen a player skate at 1" because "it eats up the wheel" and the second time I got hit in the face with a lacrosse ball. When I demanded to see the manager guy that hit me looked at me and goes "What can I do for you".

Yes it is hard to find a good place to get a sharpening. The last one I got was at Players Bench in Grapevine.

I asked for a 3/4" hollow and the kid looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. He took them back and sharpened them alright. On my right skate the back half of my blade feels like it has no edge.

Thank you Ben for the link. I have not been to the Ice Training Center. I will have to check them out. Is there one certain person to use?

If you can, get Dave.

He's an old guy with glasses. He was the Stars equipment manager for years, and had 20+ in the NHL. He went there after the Stars forced him out since his son is the Hockey Director.

On a side note, I'm from richardson but will be in Dallas this spring, any good leagues around here for an amateur.

The people at the Ice Training Center do a good job on sharpenings. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near Richardson so I have to use Perani's. The manager there does a good job of sharpening, but its a crap shoot with the rest of the employees.

I'll second Van, when I lived in Lewisville he always provided good service..if I tried to get my skates sharpened on the weekend with anyone else there..they couldn't be bothered...

there's a guy in the Ft. Worth area (blades by todd) that does good work and Angel who was at the FB DPSC I could trust with them ....but for the most part..skating at 3/4 and on ice that has been beat up by practices etc by the time our games came around..it didn't really matter once the ice dried....like some others..i have asked for 3/4 and gotten whatever was on the wheel...

PB is, as Stephen A Smith would say, terrible....is the guy from Australia or wherever who always tells people he's playing for hte Brahmas then playing every B league still there??

Haha AUSSIE MIKE! No....they guy is long gone. He got "cut" form the Australian national team and I havnt seen him since. GEEZ that guy....was something else.

On a side note, The only guy I would trust my skates with is Shane in Euless. I dont like the dupliskate thing they use at ITC. I however, am lucky enough to be able to do my own skates even though I dont work in any of the stores anymore.

What Ive found is that if you know some people that work the stores you will get what you want....you dont know anyone you will get treated like shit. It shouldnt be like that, but thats how it is.

With all of that said, the guys at TheHockeyShop in Lewisville were always nice and helpful to me when I walked in the door, but they dont have a large inventory.

Custom skates? I have been looking for them for f'n years. For the past 8 years, been using a pro skate (2 sets) from the Sens, the players foot was evidently identical to mine, so good, but he's no longer in Ottawa, and it's time for new skates. They weigh 2.7 lbs each and I'm not getting any younger, or lighter...

Instead of following the player around the country looking for his used skates (or Europe, where I think he is now), I found the best and most suitable option for me - because retail skates will simply not suffice. Retail? I tried, lordy did I try! I spent $1100 on 3 sets of skates, tried a bunch of different options, but eventually gave them up and sold them, except one pair. (A pair of nice ccm pro tacks, size 10.5 -WAY too big for me- with tuuk lightspeed 296 holders on them). Still for sale by the way...

Then I discovered Eastwesthockey.com - they do custom Bauer/Nike skates, I got my dream skates, custom size (9 3/4, white felt tongue, extra width (which needed a larger toe box), larger holders (296 instead of the 280 on the 9.5 xxxx, or the 288 on the size 10 xxxx), a cloth like liner, and the whole skate was double stitched. I know there are a couple of custom things I am missing, but the most important ones are here.

There you go, my post about custom skates.

Jason at eastwesthockey.com is the guy btw, very helpful and knowledgeable. Tell them Justin from Canada sent you. Eh.

JM.
