Tried a pair of NBH XXV's

Recommended Posts

UC,

You mentioned in your oringinal that you were having significant pronation issues in your Vectors.

You also mentioned that it seemed to be solved by the new skates. My initial thoughts are that the stiffness of the new boot is preventing your ankles from rolling inwards. That will only last for a limited period of time. You will eventually break down this boot, and will wind up back where you started.

I would look into orthotics or a blade alignment in order to solve the problem. Leaving it to the stiffness of the boot is sort of like treating the symptom.

FWIW, my daughter is a comptetitive figure skater who had a pronation problem. Her coach suggested orthotics, and since getting them, her skating has improved remarkably. She used have difficulty getting to her outside edge during certain manouvers, that has now been solved. As a bonus it also improved her glide, her posture and her balance.

It is critical to get that blade aligned directly under you center of balance.

good luck.

I have used superfeet and have a pair of orthotics. Superfeet is like a public orthotic that only supports you to a certain degree (e.g. weight, balance, etc). Orthotics are made just for your feet giving you support all the way, it takes time to get use to orthotics in skates but once you break it in the feeling is amazing. I felt that I skated faster with every push, better start offs, better balance, tight turnings, heel locked way better. I only got orthotics because my mom works at a physiotherapy and i got a deal for only 100$. Try superfeet first then see the results. My brother got a pair and the doctor said his feet was severely bad because he hardly had an arch at all.

After reading all of these comments I'm almost regretting getting a pair of XXXX's yesterday. I could have easily got the XXV because I only play like once a week beer league. At the store there were a bunch of people trying on the XXV's since it seemed to be the 'go to' skate for anyone looking to upgrade but not spend a ton. At $289 it did seem like a hell of a bargain.

The kicker for me was I had $400 in gift certificates so I figured if I was ever going to shell out for a high end boot this is the best time to try it. It only cost me $50 of my own money when it was all said and done. I thought about getting XXV's and then some other equipment or a stick, but figured I'd always wonder what the XXXX's were like if I don't try them!

I'm sure I'll love these skates though. I have been using Supreme 8000's (which have been just fine and are barely even used after 2 years of playing) so I'm guessing these will feel fantastic. I'm sure I'll tell myself and anyone who asks that they feel fantastic no matter what. :D

It would have been nice to save the money but I dont regret buying the XXXXs at all.

I had looked into the possibility of blade alignment on my skates and was told on hockey skates there is little to no adjustment to be made because of the holders.

After skating in my Vectors for a few months, I came to feel that my heel was not fitting properly..too narrow.

I will look into the superfeet/orthotics route after a few months in my new skates, as these are the only option for me fit wize...other than Graf's or custom.

I would get them right away, so that the skates break in properly. Even if you start out with the superfeet grey, it will be an improvement. At least they will put your ankles in about the same position as the orthotic as they are about the same thickness.

You don't really want to break in the boot, then move your foot to a different position after the fact.

It really is worth looking after.

You need to go try them on. Those two skates fit differently. Most likely one will fit and the other will not.

No foot will fit properly into an RBK skate and a Mission skate. You're kidding yourself. This applies for Stealths and Vapors. One does fit better.

Return policy?

But I have found that when I buy on impulse like that, I'm normally unhappy in the end with my purchase. If the Eastons fit your foot, pick em up and throw some lightspeeds, tuuks, or pitch's on there. Seems as though it would fit the same as the S15s just won't be as stiff, etc.

The XXV's are only $270. It sounds like you want someone to ok your purchase of the s11's.

Getting the right fit in a skate will save you money in the long run.

They won't ship to Canada because of Nike/Bauers shipping policies. Talk about getting the shaft for living in the country that invented the game.

South of the border isn't the only place for bargains as Canadian retailers are clearing these models out as well. A shop in Winnipeg is clearing XXV's out for $250. I'm sure you can find similar deals in your local shops. Let's keep our money in Canada.
