Locker/Dressing Room Assignment board software?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, for those that work in an Arena. . .

If applicable, what software do you use to display locker room assignments? (I know alot of rinks use a whiteboard and just write it out or print out a list) I've seen some CCTV displays as well and our rink is looking into getting a plasma screen for this purpose.

Go with an LCD...plasma is susceptible to burn-in.

Only in plasma models manufactured >3 or 4 years ago, or bargain basement models; LCD's are just as susceptible to "image persistence" (aka the fancy LCD name for "burn in") as a plasma, especially when used in a situation like this where graphics will probably be fairly static. A solution on either type of screen would be to get whoever is responsible for programming the graphic to alternate background colors on the display frequently.

No help on the original question on software, though, sorry :P

Just use Powerpoint. Make a slide with a table, and run it in presentation mode. You can add all your logos and customization you like and it's easy for staff to update.

Can also scroll through other slides (advertisements? rink info? etc) easily.

Yeah, that's one option we're looking at. We would want something that we can schedule so we wouldn't have to change it every day and set up a schedule for an entire week at a time or so.

Yeah - you could pre-make your PPTs for the week and then staff just have to load the new one when they open. Not too hard.

We do this at work (I'm IT manager for an aviation manufacturing company) on a couple displays for employee news, etc and it works great.

Don't even have to do that, create 7 ppt files, Monday through Sunday. Have a scheduled task for each day runs the ppt for that day.

Someone still has to update the PPT files once a week. I've seen some rinks use software that pulls right from the ice schedule on the computer. I'll call around and see what they use. I know it allows them to schedule a team practice for the entire season in one shot and any changes appear dynamically on the screen.

If you don't already have an ice scheduling system, I could probably write one for you without too much time needed. Send a PM if you run out of other options.

I would make up maybe 4 power point or excel charts, using different colors and different line edge positions, and rotate them each time I update it. That way the burn in on the screen would be minimal.
