Top eyelet on Vapors (XXV)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

After coming from Graf 727s and Tacks, I find that I can't get any kind of decent stride from my Vapor XXVs unless I leave the top eyelet undone. Two questions:

1. Am I just a gimpy skater, and I should be able to skate with the top eyelet done up?

2. Am I doing damage to the skate by leaving the top eyelet undone?

FWIW, I'm 6'3", 215lbs. I mainly play D, but occasionally I'll vacation at C.

on my 705s, I laced up all the way.. on my pro tacks i laced up all the way, 8090s I left the top undone.. so I couldn't quite figure out what worked on my XXVs, the top undone was a bit too much, but lacing up all the way put me on my heels and I felt I was falling backwards all the time.. I saw a clip of Crosby one time and noticed he skips the 2nd to top eyelet, so I tried that and wallah.. it's perfect... for me at least. basically you just skip over the 2nd to the top eyelet so the top one does end up being laced but it has some fwd flex there. I don't know the physics behind it, but it works for me, perhaps you could give it a try.

hapamatt,

You could also try getting the pitch increased, it will help with knee bend and fwd flex..puts the knee more over the toe.

Especially if you are coming from Grafs.
