Ice Hockey Girdle

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was just wondering i your opinions, which is the best girdle and why?

Please include the RBK 9K pant in this section as well as it really performs as a girdle.

Thanks

I've tried the Tackla and Bauer (Not the Vapor wrap) varities and feel that the Bauer was a bit more protective in the right places. The pads seemed to stay in place better as well but I'd image much of it is PP and dependant on body size.

I currently use the Bauer girdle with the thigh pads removed and a pro-stock shell which has built in thigh portection and extra padded. Its the best feel and protection out of any girdle or pant I've used.

The only girdle styled pant I have worn is the RBK 9K and I LOVE it. Fits more snug and the padding wraps around tightly and holds still in the right spots (inside of thigh, hips, lower back). The only complaint I have is weight in hand. Only when you are holding it does it feel heavier. Feels light and comfortable when skating. Maybe because of proper distribution of padding? I dont know. 10/10.

I originally wore a pant, and then 2 yrs. ago switched over to a tackla girdle. It was really lightweight and easy to move in those, but the protection suffered noticiby...i just got a new pair about 2 weeks ago, and i needed to go back to a pant..

So, if you're not going hard and slamming into the corner, blocking d shots or anything too physical like that, then i would highly suggest the Tackla....

If you do then i would definately recommend rbk pants if that is possible.

I've been in the Easton Synergy girdle for about a year now. Very good protection, and you can remove all of the padding to make washing easier. For me this is a great feature as I have a propensity to sweat.....a lot!! :)

I use an old school Cooper MBP. And it's rad.

Second that...bought two of them from hockeyworld. Most comfortable girdle ever made...like a second skin.

I also use the MBP girdle. I've got no complaints.

Wore MBP for years, still have it, but as I've gotten older (and fatter) I've cheated and switched to the MBP8. Much easier to lace up my skates...LOL

JR how similar in fit is the MBP8 to the original MBP or the new One90 girdles. I need to get a new one unfortunately the LHS doesnt carry them.

Tackla girdle is really light however the pads move around alot

That is not the case with my pair. You may have bought the wrong size. I am 6'4" 250 lbs with a 36-38" waist and thick quads. I bought XLs. They fit very snug and NEVER move around which was one of my worries in switching from pants to girdle. The tailbone, thigh and all other pads stay well in place while allowing unlimited movement.

Was using MBP8 for awhile, now I'm using a REALLY old CCM girdle, and about to switch to Tackla.

I don't like the 'wrap' design of the MBP8. That's probably my only beef with it. I prefer the full, slip on design of Easton, CCM, Tackla, etc.

As reasons stated above, manueverability, weight, and mobility are the biggest factors for myself in choosing a girdle in lieu of a traditional pant. Traditional hockey pants just do not work for me.

I agree with the fit difference myself. As an opinion, I have used the Easton. I found it very comfortable and protective, but was not as pleased with durability. They fell apart (outer shell holes that widened as it stretched) in less than 4 months.

I used an old Cooperall Pro style girdle for years until couldn't find new/used ones and tape wouldn't hold them together.

Now use MBP8. What I like about it is I can tighten my skates then fasten my girdle on after without having to slide it on over my skates.

Im talking about the seams coming undone and the pads move into other sectons of the girdle.

My seams are well in tact. Perhaps you've got a defective pair. Do you remove and replace your pads often? I could see that being extra stress on the pad pockets. Good luck.

same happened to me, and finally, the pad moved and a puck hit me in the quad, and i decided that was it, switched to 8k's and i didn't think it would be as good a switch as it was...you get the point, the 8k's are the best pants ive ever had by far.

I wear the Bauer one90 girdle, and I couldn't be happier. I like the way the pads stay in place, and you barely notice them there. I converted from roller hockey, and could not get used to how bulky ice pants seemed. For me the girdle was a good compromise.

Do you wear girdles like you would regular pants? Or do you wear them like in roller hockey with some actual hockey pants over them?

The girdles can be used in either ice or inline. The difference being that on inline you typically wear a long inline pant over them, in ice you wear a "Pant Shell" over the girdle. It is exactly as it sounds....just like a pair of shorts that are a nylon shell to cover your girdle and give you the look of a traditional pant, but with far greater maneuverability, and a less obtrusive feel.

Bingo. Also less protection, but I've had no problem with my girdle playing defense (high school).
