Ok, so i'm skating... and every now and then wehn i throw on the brakes it sounds like my skate is a rusty bicycle coming to a stop. I'm on e-pro's.

I figured maybe this was a result of loose screws, but i got home and they were pretty tight. do i need to tighten when im on the bench and my blades are good and cold due to contracting steel parts? or is this a sign of bent steel or some other whacked out thing?

I coached a kid with the same problem, but only when he was stopping to the right. Or maybe the left. Nobody could figure out the problem. I would be interested in knowing what the cause and solution are, too. I think there was a thread about that on MSH, but no answer seemed to fix the problem.

Perhaps you could try swapping the left and right blades, and seeing if the squeak migrates with the blade?

I had this problem back in squirt hockey with my black tacks. I never could find out what the problem was.

I am interested to know what the reason behind this horrible noise is.

It's squeaking because the top of the blade is loose in the holder. I fixed this on a few different pairs by taking the blade out and putting sock tape over the top of it. If you have the scalloped steel you just have to trim the tape over the scallops or just put a piece over each. Put the steel back into the holder (it's going to be a tight fit) and that should take care of it.

when i first skated in my vector 10.0's, they made that noise sometimes when i stopped (on both sides). i think it was because stopping was a bit awkward for me in the new skates and i was not applying proper pressure/skate angle. once i got used to the skates and could stop comfortably, the noise stopped.

What hollow does he have his skates sharpened at? I skate with a guy that gets his done at 1/4 and every time he tries to stop or cut, he makes that noise.

i was at 11/16ths before my injury, and it did rattle every now and then but i constantly forgot to tighten down the screw (it was pretty loose). Now i'm on 9/16ths, debating moving back up to 5/8ths.

it doesnt happen all the time, but it's just annoying, and wasnt sure if it was a sign of something wrong.
