No,no what i meant was that if there was a single owner he would see that he could generate more money by making the playoffs and because hes a 1 or 2 man team they'd be more invovled with the day to day. The pension plan just see's positive numbers all the time because no matter how bad the leafs are the fans fill the seats.

Edit- just realized i said pretty much the same thing as eazy did

I hope mine didn't come off that way. I'd hope a large corporation like the Teacher's pension would be able to realize winning = playoffs = money. Afterall they pay people to figure it out and most elementary school Leafs fans know this. I think it's a garbage argument that the Pension plan is costing this team because they don't want to make as much money.

It's just too bad Kubina is out.

What happened to Colaiacovo? Is he injured I haven't heard anything about him in a while.

Cola's hurt. Still battling that knee injury he suffered vs. the Rangers last year.

Just heard on the radio that JFJ tried to fire PM, but was prevented from doing so by higher-ups at MLSE.

Ferguson rejects report on firing coach

Defensive zone coverage system seems to have a lot of switching. Perhaps a simpler zone system would help out their Ds?

It's a Simmons article. The same guy who said Mats' hip injury was career threatening and the same one that caused Mogilny to retire and miss an entire year.

The Leafs played a trap for 2 games and they played it fairly well. Beat Ottawa with it, and lost to Boston (on their 3rd period meltdowns when they abandond the system) after leading for the 2 periods they used it for.

Not to be a dick, but it's a non life-threatening form of cancer that I believe is treated solely with a pill.

Cancer is cancer though; it's not a little sprained thumb or other weak malady. At the very least it's obviously something that will take your focus completely away from hockey.

Good insights an all, but too bad the Toronto Sun isn't a real newspaper, more like just a paper with ink all over it.

Edit: Fear the crappy attempted metaphors!

I don't get how MLSE, who has been so smart with how they run the Raptors, can be so dumb in how they run the Leafs.

Colangelo comes in and turns the Raps around HIS WAY. The Committee stays out of it. The building is full and the team is winning.

Yet, on the hockey side...the meddle...they are involved...and nothing is changing.

?

I've got 2 Leaf fans at work that are hoping that Montreal runs through them huge tomorrow. They figure that might finally spark changes. They both said a win (or even a competitive loss) would start the whole "...They are turning it around..." discussion again, and lead to Status Quo.

Business-wise, they're running the team well enough that it makes a killing but goddamn I wish they ran the actual team better. Aging captain who can't carry a team into the playoffs sounds familiar to the Rangers a few years ago, but they manned up and started over and it has treated them well.

As long as there is a Committee/Board running the thing...I doubt it changes, regardless of who the GM or Coach is.

As the story goes...When Colangelo took the Raptors job he insisted that "he" (Peddie) stayed out of his way and let him run the team without input. Whoever is the GM for the Leafs needs the same autonomy. You think Bowman or Campbell will take that job knowing that they couldn't do anything without the approval of a Committee first?

In the Stars-Islanders game tonight, Daryl Reaugh said Glenn Healy is rumored for the GM job.

Anyone else hearing that rumor?

I've heard it a few times. One of the many names bantered around. In the last week I've heard Healy, Messier, Francis, Gilmour, Bowman, Colin Campbell and Neil Smith. Most Toronto reporters are doing what they usually do, throw out as many names as possible and hope for the best.

Radio - I don't think anyone of Colangelo's level is willing to come in and rebuild the team. The raps also had a decent starting base with the first overall pick, CB4 and Villaneuva (sp?) to build around. With a team made up 5 players on the court, and the starters playing the majority of minutes, it's a bit different. Also the Raps were allowed to take risks that the Leafs aren't. Media pressure comes into play here. The Raps have done a terrific job and I hope the Leafs are the same, but the starting point is very different and Colangelo's are not readily available. The power struggle on the board needs to change. Right now there are 2 camps (Peddie and Tannenbaum) which appear to be against eachother. If a single person emerges, I think it will make a significant difference in the long run.

I'd consider Bowman/Campbell or Smith a "Colangelo" - No? If given the autonomy (my new favorite word, btw...) that Bryan has....any of those 3 could do the job properly.

Seeing as how he's bashed 60-70% of the currently lineup at one point or another...that'd be interesting.

Even better to make him the coach/GM.

Neil Smith knows how to work in a major market. They should have picked him up last time and now they can fix their mistake.

Bowman has the potential, but he made his mark as a coach, not a GM. He's also significantly older than Colangelo and is no longer involved on a very deep level. Not saying he can't do the job, just that his drive will probably be different.

Also someone mentioned that Stellick was on the Fan earlier today, claimed Peddie had a deal worked out with Bowman for a Colangelo package minus JFJ's salary and Peddie backed down from it.

So, they outshot (and for the most part outplayed) Montreal 43-27, and lost in a SO in a game that if not for Price they probably would have won....how much time do you figure this buys JFJ and/or Maurice?

They had a closeup of JFJ during the game and he was discussing a trade. We'll see if they let him pull it off.

With who? I must've missed that (or were you watching something other than TSN?)

I think it was TSN it was on center ice with the gassbag Healy. Christ, he wouldn't shut up about it for 10 minutes.

Yeah...if you had Healy it was TSN. At one point Cuthburt made a comment like, "Here with Glenn Healy the next Leafs GM..." Healy goes "Oh, be quiet"

I did like his line about Kovalev in response to Chris' comment that the one thing he and Kovalev have in common is that they are both former Rangers who have both gained 40 pounds *L*

"...Kovalev can stick handle in a phone booth, and I can't get into one anymore"

I think it was Milbury who I thought had a really good point. He said he felt that the Leafs should get a new GM now, not to assure that the season is turned around, but for next year. Get the new guy in place, let him figure out what he is working with, make the deadline deals that he wants to do, draft who he wants, and sign who he wants with enough time. Makes a lot of sense to me.
