TSN is reporting that Cliff Fletcher has been asked if he is interested in the position of Interim GM.

Why the hell would you give a guy an interim title...let him make trades, changes and then give the job to someone else this summer?

I take it he is getting up there in age, and he might not want to commit for a long time. If I remember correctly he already retired once, so he may only be interested in something short term until the Leafs find someone fit for a longer period of time.

I understand why Cliff may only be interested in an Interim job...but why would the Leafs fire JFJ now...put an Interim in place and keep looking for a new GM. I'd think if you fire JFJ, you replace him with the guy you want as your GM. If they have someone in mind who maybe isn't available due to contract/tampering stuff...fine keep JFJ, admit that this season is toast...tie is hands and fire him as soon as the horn goes after game 82.

An interim GM could make changes now, that a new guy in May doesn't like...and then you are undoing work before you can move forward.

...

Oh, wait a minute...the Pension Fund is still making money, right? Scrap everything I just said...keep eff'ing up the on ice product...as long as the Pension Fund stays strong and the building is full who gives a shit..

Let's Go Raptors!

This franchise deserves whatever hell they create for themselves. How in the hell does this get out to the public?

JFJ's easily the most hated man in Toronto, so if he is removed, it appears as if they have removed the problem. That's why an interim GM may be brought in.

And I agree, as do alot of NHL GMs (according to Dreger) that MLSE/Peddie is handling this thing terribly.

Peddie should be...

I read somewhere that the Leafs are wanting to wait to pick a permanent GM until this summer when there will be more choices available. The reason to get rid of JFJ and get a temp in there is because they feel like they can't trust him to do important things that need to happen this season, i.e. get Sundin traded.

He can't do anything "important" without permission anyways. If you believe the stories...he's asked twice already to fire Maurice and he's been told "NO!". He's been lame duck for a long time. I bet he needs a hall pass to go to the washroom during the game.

Leafs found a way to make a terrible situation worse, weakened their position going into potential trades.

Mr Draft-Shmaft is now going to evaluate picks/prospects offered for Sundin?

He also traded their pick to NJ (Scott Niedermayer) for Tom friggin' Kurvers. Now he's older and more senile? Awesome.

You sure? I thought that was someone else. Worst part about that trade was it should have been Lindros. A happy Lindros. They were last when they made the deal, Kurvers pulled them up a bit in the standings.

It is sad really, I spend 5 minutes happy that they won, then realize it only screws their draft position and I can't be happy anymore.

I'm not sure, I always heard his name lumped in with that deal but maybe it's because he didn't do it. I guess it's just believable that he did make such a horrible trade. Either way, it'll be fitting if he's the guy who deals Sundin away since he brought him in.

It'll be weird, since he'll be the one who traded away Clark, Gilmour and Sundin, the biggest stars in the last 20 years, but also the one who brought each of them in (even if it was Wendels return :()

I am pretty sure Fletcher came in after the trade was made. It happened at the end of the 90-91 year and Fletcher started in 91. I think his first move was for Fuhr and Anderson.

It's going to be a weird time and the first time I'll understand (to an extent) what Bruins fans must have felt like after Bourque got dealt. I only started liking the Leafs after Sundin was deal to them but it'll be hard to suddenly stop liking them. I just hope they get a good rebuilding chance from the offer.

Selfishly I would also like to see Sundin traded to a team I can stand. I really hope he's not going to Vancouver.

I think if Sundin does get traded he will want to go back to Toronto next year...(see: Weight & Tkachuk ) but if the GM that trades him isn't the GM next year, that may cause a problem.

He'll go West. I say either Detroit...or Anaheim (I think Burke will push hard for Sundin if Selanne doesn't return)

It's hard to say. Anahiem and Detroit both opted to stay away from big moves at last years deadline. Sundin's obviously a terrific player, but I am not sure either will be willing to pay the price. It may be a team on the outside looking to make a final push or a statement. Like Nashville (statement), ATL, and NYI (both playoff pushes) did last season. Maybe a CLB/PHX type of team, who has some young talent and a mid to late teen pick in the draft.

I think their first choice would be somewhere in the West since they don't want him in the East, but realistically they should (hopefully will) take whatever the best deal is, even if it (ugh) came from Ottawa. Eazy brings up a good point about Nashville possibly trying to make a statement since they have D to send away, but then again it will just seem like last year's deal for Forsberg and they may avoid that entirely. I think Nashville will be looking to get a big name that's still got a few years in them.

Anaheim I think would be ideal because of the Oilers pick, but it looks like Selanne is coming back soon and they already have some cap issues so I don't know if they can make it work. But wow, imagine they get Sundin and Selanne before the trade dealine? That would be one wicked team.

If they somehow manage to have Selanne, Sundin and Schneider at the same time I would love to see how they got those numbers to work, but I think two of the three are all they could have.

Go to about the 4:40 mark and watch Peddie's lips very closely while Fletcher is talking...unbelievable.

New puppet...same puppeteer...

This is why nothing is going to get better at MLSE.
