greech

Philly Strikes once again.

Recommended Posts

well the flyers are officially "on notice" whatever that is supposed to mean -i'm sure they are shaking in their boots

i hope bettman gave them more details than just that, and that its not just an empty threat

it means after 7 strikes you get an extra nasty warning, then after 12 strikes, you're out.

Volchenkov on Booth

Aren't these hits dirty as some would call them? Do you want to guess the suspension length? 0 man games lost to suspension there.

This is unfortunate but not worthy of a suspension. Booth turns into him and the check isn't directly from behind, it's from the shoulder. There was little, if anything, Volchenkov could have done differently in this case.

The Wescott hit on Parker was defensive and/or reactionary and I would be willing to let that slide without a suspension.

Sutton also had a pretty nasty check from behind late in a game against the Flyers that was pretty bad. I really thought he was going to get a few games for that one, I should have known better.

Downie called up today. Should we count on another suspension?

He still hasn't served all of his games yet has he? I thought they were just going to call him up on Phantom off days so he could serve his suspensions one game at a time. I have my money on Eager as the next suspension.

Yes, he has served all his games I believe he's been eligible for a little bit of time now, but Homer didn't recall him immediately because he wasn't the best player on the Phantoms. And Eager is not a bad guess at all, I'd hope for Hatcher but Fitzpatrick is even worse.

How in the hell could he serve 30 days in the AHL and 20 games in the NHL already?

He's already played 12 games in the AHL so his suspension hasn't just ended. This shows some of his movement between the clubs http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=51...name=nhl-flyers . From my understanding for almost every one of the Flyers' games he has been up serving a suspension game.

I know his AHL suspension was for October, didn't realize he was up and down during the month. Just goes to show what a joke both leagues are. To be able to serve suspensions in two different leagues at the same time is absolutely pathetic.

the league warned the flyers organization. they wouldn't say what the penalty would be but people think it could be fines, or suspensions of the gm, coaching staff, or a combo

Don't worry sport, I'll give you some supporting information to your claim.

The NHL has reportedly put the Philadelphia Flyers on notice. The league handed Flyers forward Riley Cote a three-game suspension on Monday for his match penalty following a high head shot to Dallas Stars defenceman Matt Niskanen Saturday night. "I talked to (Gary Bettman) today," Holmgren told the Philadelphia Daily News. "He thinks, like I do, that these are different coincidences, different situations, that have to be viewed differently, but the question was raised about ramifications if it happens again. So obviously we're under watch." No word on yet if Bettman has put the Flyers on double secret probation.

Same quote as in the TSN article linked earlier. That might be one of the worst blogs I've ever seen. Even the rumors he pulls together are some of the flakiest ones I've ever heard.

Well yeah. 95% of the rumors I see on there make me wonder who's smoking what. Some of the folks on that site, especially their message boards are crazy.. Some of the rumors on there are beyond fantasy. Everything I've seen them get right so far (Bryz rumors, Recchi rumors etc.) have been widely known very obvious things that were about to happen

So this guy is worse then Eklund—the used douche nozzle that does hockeybuzz or something?

Anyone who posts this in December without blasting it for being utter fantasy has no credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal wonders if a package of Jiri Hudler, Jakub Kindl and a 2nd rounder in 2008 from the Detroit Red Wings could pry Mats Sundin from the Toronto Maple Leafs, if Sundin becomes available.

I have no problem with it. As long as he couldn't collect a paycheck anywhere for a month I'm happy. I give the AHL credit for honoring at least part of his NHL suspension.

My issue is with the NHL allowing him to get called up, serve a game and get sent back down. Suspensions should be served in consecutive games and if that creates a hardship for the team, too bad.

Another thing I don't have a problem with. Downie is a fringe player at this point, anyway. His season, regardless of the suspension would have been a yoyo affair.

20 consecutive games in the pressbox might have been enough to keep him out of the league. He's going to do something stupid again and probably in the near future. Might as well wait for it because we all know it's going to happen.

That only works in the twilight of players' careers (witness: McSorley). I don't think an extended suspension has the same effect on a youngster. Teams still think they see something outside of the problems.

I agree but with having to deal with injuries and the other suspensions, there might not have been the opportunity to burn a roster spot with a guy sitting for a quarter of the season.

With a first round pick invested in the kid, I think the Flyers don't have much of a choice but to hang onto him and take their lumps. Now, if we're talking about a career up and down guy like Boulerice, then you may have a point.

its good to see so many people up in arms over this crap. I remember bitching about dirty players back in the 90's when it was really bad and I basically got told to stfu all the time. so to me, the NHL seems tame compared to 10 - 15 yrs ago. for you youngsters, I was watching the '95 cup final between detroit and NJ a couple of days ago and it was just absolutely painful to watch. imagine any one of these hits that you're talking about here....except they go on all game and never get called. oh and the players grab and hang all over each other so they can't skate. it was real fun to watch let me tell ya.

I was watching the detroit v montreal game the other night and they interviewed gordie howe in the stands and he was practically begging for players to stop the nonsense and start respecting each other. too bad most won't listen to him. not to say that I think players in howes day were angels because we all know they weren't but I bet you wouldn't see someone take a shot like they do today. if they did, they probably got their ass kicked immediately.

I guess its going to take someone getting really hurt for this to stop.....oh wait, that already happened. remember steve moore? bertuzzi should've been kicked out of the league for that shit.

Folks have a hard time taking Howe seriously when he comments about respect since he is just as famous for throwing elbows as he is for longevity and scoring.

I agree. You bring up a good point too, Howe was a complete player. He could score & kick your ass. You really don't see that anymore.

I like how Lindy Ruff handled the situation with Chris Neil and the Sens. He put his "goons" out and had them rough up their stars. Next time someone on Philly pulls that shit the other team should drop the hammer on Briere. Colin Cambell has proved over and over again how useless he is, it's time the players start respecting each other and start policing themselves.
