NHL Center Ice HD

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any idea why center ice on any given night broadcasts a max of 2 games in HD? It's severely obnoxious to be watching a game and they advertise "in HD" yet the only feed is the horrifically bad analog broadcast.

When I had Comcast they didn't even appear to come in standard. It looked like high-school A/V club crap/horrible amateur porn quality. God forbid you ever turn to the Sabres or Capital home coverage and have two of your senses raped.

Isles games are the worst for me, but just about every game looks like it's being played with half the lights out. It's not my TV either because everything else looks fine.

I get ZERO center ice games in HD through Comcast.

i assume since there are other people out there that do get a few center ice games in HD - that in my case it is comcast's doings?

They get the feed from wherever it comes from and then downgrade it to standard def? I was debating complaining to comcast but I wasn't sure if it was actually their doing.

...senses raped.

I knew there was a better description for the visual massacre I typically endure through most of the broadcasts.

It sounds like you guys need to complain to Comcast. I'm trying to figure out if I should complain to Dish but I can't find any reference anywhere online regarding how the programming decisions are made or even anyone that seems irritated about the poor (and apparently inconsistent) HD coverage.

The dozen or so calls regarding their blackout regulations have fallen on deaf ears so I'm looking to jump to direct tv. A buddy of mine was telling me how much better his package is and he has no blackouts at all.

Some providers (Comcast etc) are not capable because of bandwidth restrictions of giving their subs the games in HD. The actual feed given to the provider is in HD, so same game on Dish or Directv actually is in HD while your viewing a downgraded signal.

I'm in Canada but hear Directv is leader in giving its subs HD broadcasts-just added numerous channels....boy I miss the H-HU card days :)

I just cancelled my NHL package. I never got HD gamers with Cablevision. They migrated the package and some special language channels to a new node and the bandwith is easily exceeded. I was getting blocked out of most of the games every night. At least I got all my money back for it.

I've got the DirectTV package and about 20-30% of the games are in HD and very few blackouts. Even when they are downgraded from HD to standard you can tell a difference from a game that has a standard native resolution.

I just switched from Time Warner Cable to DirecTV and if you have HD it's a no brainer right now because it's very apparent that cable is not going to do much until the 2009 law takes effect. I get NHL-HD, Versus-HD and plenty of HD games on Center Ice every night. On most nights you get both the home and away feeds for the same game! Just no CBC in HD but even the SD games look better on DirecTV. Plus they have almost 100 HD channels, many many more than any cable or FIOS provider can offer. The DVR is 100 times better than cable DVRs and is almost as good as TiVo.

If you can switch do it.

I'm another comcast-er who has center ice and sees terrible resolution on 95% of the games, if I get to even see them all. I'm displeased about it, but there's not much I can do atm...

I'm probably booting comcast for next season. I need to run the numbers and see what combo gives me a better price.
