Tinted Visors

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the Oakley tint is lighter or darker than the Itech tint? I'm thinking of picking one up but was just wondering if one was darker/lighter than the other. Thanks :)

I'm not sure which is lighter/darker but i will say this i have a tinted itech that i bought for playing outdoors to help cut down on the blinding glare when skating into the sun. The tint is very light on this visors it did help with the glare, and i now use it indoors and i can't even tell that i have it on anymore, i'm sure it would be noticable if i threw on a clear visor on but after playing with i can't tell its tinted

imo, the oakley gray tint is *slightly* darker than the itech. but if you decide to pick up a tinted visor, i would find something with a little more coverage, so your vision doesn't keep switching from light to dark every time you look up and down. that means the oakley pro straight small (i.e., the crosby oakley visor) is out of the question. lol. i'm using a gray tint oakley medium pro aviator right now, and the coverage is excellent.

good luck!

Agree, Oakley is darker than the Itech. That's why I went with the Itech straight cut over the Oakley. It took me a skate or two to adjust to the difference, but I like it now.

how about going from playing in a well-lit rink to a poorly-lit rink? I usually play in well-lit rinks but I also play in poorly rinks sometimes.. would you guys say that it's harder to see the puck in those? Friend of mine told me in those rinks it's a strain on your eyes trying to see thru the tint in bad lighting conditions.

IMO it's harder to see other players and I have to figure out who's on my team or who's on the other team when playing in poorly lit arenas than it is to see the puck. Maybe that's just me...

i always thought the Oakley on was a bit on the darker side. the only real dissadvantage i can see to having a tinted visor would be if you ever have to play in a dark arena it could be hard to see the puck

really, playing with a tinted visor isn't THAT bad. lol

i'm prone to migraines, so i prefer a tinted visor to cut down glare. but it's not like the difference between tinted and clear is akin to night/day. just try it on at your LHS, and gauge your decision from there. but it would help if you had a wholly practical reason for using a tint, and "looking cool" isn't legitimate enough. lol

good luck!

Also, whats with those "Mirror" visors? I know I have seen some pictures floating around on the internet with Ovechkin wearing them when he was playing in Russia. Is there any place you can buy them?

They don't make the oakley small straight cut tinted do they? I've never seen one.

They don't sell the blue oakley mirrored one. However, you can get a itech straight cut HS22 or pro wave mirrored.

Hey Steve,

yep, they make it in the Pro Straight Small. catch the Leafs game tonight and you'll see Antropov wearing it.

I picked one up myself, but ended up returning it on account of its insufficient coverage.... the idiot it me just thought it looked cool at the time. serves no practical purpose, IMO.

You can buy them at most LHS and online retailers.

Haven't seen anyone in my LHS's. I will say that'll I'll look at the online retailers again, tho. Never took too much time on those websites lookin' at visors.

Sorry to bring back an old topic.

The visors that are worn in the NHL by Ovechkin and Antropov, do these have a slightly lesser tint than the tinted retail visors? Would the retail tinted Oakley and iTech visors be allowed in the NHL as I am sure the mirrored ones are not, hence making me think that AO and NA visors are less tinted than retail to stay within regulation? But I could be way off here. Just sheer curiosity.
