A rough translation

The Penguins placed Mark Recchi on waivers. The attacker of 39 years had been scratched formation at the time of six last games.

The 29 other teams of the NHL have until tomorrow to claim Recchi. If a team claims him, they must assume his salary until the end season. This year, Recchi touches a salary of two million dollars and it will be autonomous player without compensation at the end of the year.

The Penguins attempted in vain to trade Recchi during the last days since he no longer figures in the team plans.

Since the season beginning, Recchi harvested two goals and six mentions of assistance in 19 games.

...and it will be autonomous player without compensation at the end of the year.

This line makes me laugh everytime I see it in one of those online translations.

Yeah, confirmed on TSN.

Will anyone snag him? 2 million for a proven veteran... there's much worse to be had.

Actually, wouldn't it the pro-rated remainder of his $2M for this year.

He's at the age where he has to continue proving his worth every night and he hasn't been able to do that this year.

As a Flyer's fan (duh), I'd love to have Rex back in Philly to finish his career, even if he turns 40 early next year. But we don't have enough cap space, esp. with the possible Foppa deal in the works this winter ;).

Good luck with that.

Not that I expect him to go anywhere but I see these as the most likely options.

Tampa, Edmonton, Boston, San Jose, Columbus

Remember that commercial on Versus with Rex in it? 'Pry the stick from my cold dead hands.' Or they could release you. Either way. :)

Glad to see he's gone. He was good last year but he disappeared this season and was a leech. He did nothing. I would be surprised to see anyone pick him up. He didn't show too much of anything in the games he got to play in Pittsburgh, and I'm sure its hard for a young guy to look up to, or listen to a player who is supposed to be a leader when he can't catch a pass.

He had a good run though so congrats for that :)

i'm on the fence about this one - he hasn't played well this year, no one is going to argue that - but i hope he doesn't get a bad taste for Pittsburgh now because of this..

I believe he has always had a house in the area and supposedly loves it here (thats why he came back here so many times) but I hope that he doesn't hold this against the fans because this isn't necessarily how we would have wanted it to play out.

Maybe he will just be mad at penguins management for a while and no one else? I hope

Facts are this is a business and in order to get paid you gotta perform. Of course we as fans would love to have seen Rex perform and hell even a 15 goal 40 point season woulda been acceptable, although I think most of us were expecting even more than that. It was painfully obvious that Recchi has lost a step or three. Yeah he was still trying, and yeah he thinks he has some left in the tank, but I for one was sick of screaming 'What the HELL Recchi!?" at my TV 2 or 3 times per game.

I hope Roberts is next, cause I haven't seen him perform for either. All I see him do is take stupid penalties and then get more tacked on. (4 minute highstick a week or two a go, 4 minutes the other night for running his mouth after a penalty was called against him). If they can get rid of these two guys and trade or buy a veteran that can actually produce I'd be stoked.

I for one don't care if he doesn't like Pittsburgh, and I do like Recchi, its just he just wasn't doing his job and was hurting and holding back the team. He's a (was a) pro, thats how it works. We'll See. Bye Rex. Go Pens!

If toronto has cap room i bet they snatch him. If i recall correctly they have a history of grabbing players past their prime. Dont get me wrong Recchi is still good, but he doesnt hold a candle to Philadelphia Recchi. My .02

In the right system Guys like Recchi, Roberts and Sydor are still useful. The issue here is one of coaching more than anything else.

They can duke it out with the Dallas Stars on this one. Oh wait, Armstrong's gone.

Getting to see him bag his 500th goal last year was cool.

I can't remember where but i read that Therrien never wanted Recchi and Roberts on his team but his boss thought otherwise. It must suck to have guys you'd rather not have on your bench. Recchi and Roberts probably know Therrien's opinion and it must suck for them too to play for him.

Looks like Therrien managed to get rid of one, let's see if he insists with the second.

I don't buy it. Watching Recchi fumble pass after pass after pass was just plain painful.

It's those damned OPS! Go back to wood and he'll play 3 more years!

But seriously, 68pts last year and 57 pts in only 63 games the year before. How does a guy go from that production to being worthless?

i understand exactly why the team brought in recchi, leclair and roberts - they wanted veteran leadership for the playoffs - someone who brought experience and could pass along their knowledge in the last few years that they play.

I just think its really weird that all three have went flat and barely do anything. Maybe Therrien is setting them up to fail - i dunno. At this point I just just wish recchi & leclair had retired after winning the cup and went out on a high note. Now they might all end up being bitter that teams gave up on them.

I guess I just think it could have been handled a little better by the management.

I dont think there is a much better way to handle it. beg them to retire? if you sit them in the press box game after game... i dont think thats good either.

Look at Linden in Van...Andreychuk in Tampa..

These guys just dont have much left. I mean, its partially the coaches fault, i dont think vineault is giving Linden much chance to do much. but he showed in the playoffs he can still score when needed. Hes the heart and soul of the canucks. After Bert left, hes the only person i can stand on the team.

These guys will keep playing and playing when they probably shouldve packed it in a while ago. It makes for an awkward situation.. but what can ya do?

Im sure Messier would still be playing now if the Rangers finally didnt say enoughs enough.

I doubt that it went down like that. From all indications it was Messier's decision 100%. Sather is one of Messier's closest friends and Dolan's an ass, they would not force him out, that I can promise you.'

As far as the guy all worried about Recchi being mad at Pittsburgh and the fans for this, are you truly serious?

And in terms of Roberts, he acts like the biggest primadonna out there at times.
