Rit Dye Dying Holders...

Recommended Posts

I searched through and found the thread with the link to the lacrosse stick dying page that instructs you on what you need and how to use the dye. I'm not too big on style which is why I spent my money on a Graf skate instead of a Nike Bauer Space Man boot, but I think black LS2 holders on my all black 705 would look frickin' schweet (Peter Griffin style  ). My questions are:

First and foremost, will the LS2 go onto my 705 boot? The LS2 is what I have skated on for a few years now and I have grown to love them.

How long does it last? I certainly don't want to have to remove riveted holders to redye every few months...Once a year would be satisfactory skating once or twice a week.

Will it work on LS2 holders?

Has anyone done this? Feedback please, I'm all ears...or eyes...we are on a message board here.

Would it be safe to submerge the holder into the hot water/dye mixture with the steel in it? (I don't see why not and I tend to think I'm not a dumb guy)

There is a guy that sells holders on ebay that are dyed but he sells them for upwards pushing 70 bucks WITHOUT steel...too steep, and I like doing things myself to gain knowledge. Any info you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Its last so long when you get skate mark on it you will see the original color under it.

Search did pull up a few threads so I'd try that again.

What exactly are you typing into the search field... I looked for a good 15 minutes and only was able to find the one with the link to the lacrosse site.

Click on the Eq forum and then the little box for "search this forum" or whatever it says. I used "dyeing" and saw a few hits before I clicked back.

Alright I found most of the info I need in that thread, it seems relatively easy to do a solid color...which is all I am aiming for. Is it hard to get the steel out of a LS2 holder when it is off the skate? I have never had to replace steel, my boots always fail first...that's why I moved to Grafs :)

Yeah...how long was that submerged in the dye, and how many times was it redyed...it looks like a quick dye because it is just coating the surface...the point of dyeing with boiling water is to get the molecules of the holder moving and spaced out to allow some permeability. (College Physics 1 and 2 with lab )

They where in boiling water for 35 minute (until the water was praticly not hot anymore) and i did it two time after that (for a total of 3 time) I did like 7 set of those for my son team and they do the same thing.RIT doesnt go trew a lot.

Weird, a lot of the lacrosse threads I have read say that it lasts a long time with no fading or chipping...maybe the holders just don't take it up as well as the sticks do because if you think about it...if it is going to chip it should chip on a stick...those guys do a lot of stick work and hacking.

my friend tried this following the basic instructions from the lacrosse site with 2 different results. his first set was like the picture above, kinda faded and the colour wasnt really prominent. his other pair he put in longer and the colour came out good, but the holder was significantly softer.

so unless you got spare holders or just want to experiement, i dunno

Well i can comment on that too! One of my holder is not straight my steel is bended a bit and i am sure it was from doing the RIT on my holder before puting them in.

Is this what your after?Graf's

That's exactly what I am after...but I am now considering giving the T blades a run because they will save me a ton of money in the long run...Sharpenings in Tampa are 9 dollars...I'm not complaining, it's a supply demand thing, but it would save me a crap load of money to just spend 12 bucks on a set of runners once in a while, depending on how much I skate. So I wanna see what they look like with all black T blades.

My girlfriend swam for Lockport; there was a GORGEOUS exchange student swimming for Lew-Port during her junior year. That, along with some of the shaky-looking Lew-Port guys who show-up at drop-in, is the only thing my mind has to affiliate with the school.

I played one year HS hockey as a freshman (Fed - Will North varsity), the decided it a better idea to play AAA for an organization across the border in Southern Ontario; that worked better, in my opinion, than dealing with the WNY split-season or playing Prep for any of the other schools around here (Nichols, Frannies, etc.).

I dyed the tuuks on my old Vapor 30's and it was fine. There are a few cuts by skates where you can see some of the white underneath, but are pretty unnoticeable unless you look in from close. I dyed them with the boot still on, because the skates were old and I didn't feel like removing and replacing the holder anyway. All I did was mask off the rest of the skate with masking tape and duct tape, and as you can see some of the dye seeped in.

i don't know who told you the lacrosse stick heads don't fade or chip, but thats not true. When I played when I was younger dyeing was huge everyone and their grandma's sticks were dyed and they all faded and on the back of the scoop it was pretty much white again from all the scooping and picking balls up off the ground. Not to mention the scratching from playing on crappy fields with rocks and dust and a lack of grass. My head went from a navy blue to a purple after about a season. My point being your not going to get a perfect dye unless its factory black. And you taking physics if the boiling water makes it a little weak once whose to say dyeing a second or third time isn't going to make them even weaker. So if you want black holders try and find some factory black ones, or deal with the chipping nothing is perfect, or like you said Tblades.

Yeah I'm going to just buy black T blades and give them a run, sharpenings are 9 bucks down here so it would save me money in the long run to boot. I am not one of those shakey skaters from LP Lkprt, a lot of kids that play drop in around there didn't even play Travel (grand Niagara) or Club for LP, they were just kids we played street with who made the transfer to ice.

Im considering Dying my PITCH holders lime green, but dont know what really to do, i can easily take the Steel out (duh) But do i just take the dye and some hot water, and put the holders in? Also, whats a good way to keep the Dye from seeping onto the Boot? I dont really know how to take them off. Thanks.
