Breakin in new gloves?

Recommended Posts

They're great gloves and very protective, just make sure you try them on before buying so you can get the correct length. I rocked 15s before this and went down to 14s for the 4-rolls. They may feel a bit top-heavy and it seems like there's a pillow on top of your hands, but you get used to it and like all good gear, don't even notice them while playing.

Same for me - Normally 14" but wearing 13" in 4-roll. Still roomy on the back of the hand, but not as ridiculously.

I've used baseball glove foam, but not the oil. But it was after the palms got hard...worked fine, didn't notice anything bad.

its the same thing as shaving cream, i used that on all my baseball gloves since i was like 8 or 9, never thought about using it in hockey gloves but im positive it would work to soften up the palms

yeah I just recieved my Eagles from fixitbymail.com and the palms are stiff as hell.

so should i take shaving cream and use the foam to break those bad boys in? or will it harden up after the shaving cream drys up?

I think most shaving cream foams will work since they generally contain moisturizers, but I think I read somewhere that shaving foam with lanolin works best. I think lanolin acts as a moisturizer/wax, which may help protect the palms, as well as soften them up.

I find glove conditioning foam to work better than shaving cream to soften up the palms, plus it's a LOT less messy. Obviously, the conditioning foam isn't going to take away smell.

I've only used it on my x50s. It was after running the palm under hot water to kill off the bacteria and the palm dried out. Put glove conditioning foam on the palm and they were soft again.

I've seen plenty of shaving cream on goalie gloves though... messy as hell but it works.

I like my baseball glove foam a bit better cause the shaving cream smell is kind of nasty some times when mixed in with the hockey smell.

There's no substitute for just wearing them. Wear them as much as you can away from the rink. They will eventually begin to mold to your hand. In my experience, the only way to get that really comfy "broken-in old glove" feeling is to actually wear the gloves....a LOT.
