TPS messier

Recommended Posts

i've been using a TPS response armor control, Messier curve (in whip flex) for the last few months. the tape has been wearing more at the heel so i've been cutting it down a little at a time. i've got it at the right length, so that it's wearing pretty evenly now, but the stick is a little bit shorter than i like. i didn't realize how high the lie was on the messier (6 according to blade chart), and i think it's time to try something a bit lower, either 5.5 or 5.

just wondering a couple things:

has anybody had the same problem with the messier curve? if so, what blade did you end up switching to?

and, is there a general rule, like moving from 6 to a 5.5, one would use a stick that's an inch longer, or anything like that? i think i'd like it to be 1" or 1.5" longer, so i'm not sure if i should shoot for a 5 or a 5.5 lie next?

thanks...

People generally get the lie for the length of stick they want. The length you add for a lower lie all depends on your height, your style of play, how tall you stand when you're moving, etc.

I got a Messier blade simply because I like the curve and blade shape, and it turned out 6 lie works for me since I like to stay so close to my feet.

Are you right handed? I have a wood blade, that's gone soft, but I haven't found a whip flex TPS Messier for a low price, and now that Messier is gone I probably won't find one.

i am right handed, and i've got 2 of those sticks, uncut (i was cutting the plug only). i've been using them for a while now but they're in good shape (not a lot of stick work in the leagues i play in). however, i'd like to hold on to them until i find a replacement that i'm happier with... but i'll let you know when that happens if you still haven't found any...

meanwhile if i find any online for cheap i'll PM you...

easton iginla is a good bet

That's what I was leaning towards...Thanks

If you need a lower lie and you want a longer stick, go to a 5 lie.

If you go 5, Heatley from Easton would probably be a good bet, it's close to Iginla but in 5 vs. the 5.5 of the Iggy.

I've seen one or two retail twigs in my description, but my last foray into TPS OPS wasn't so hot, so I've been waiting for a used to come up since I wouldn't want to spend on something I might not like. I've tried a few other TPS patterns in blades and Messier was the only one I liked- this was before I knew anything about lie though, so it makes sense.

Possibly a forsberg/modano could work if you go with the 5 lie. Just going off of memory as i havent seen a messier in a couple years.

This is mine (the untaped one), though it's wood. Short blade, moderate mid, good amount of open, squarish toe, 6 lie, not much rocker. It's listed as a deep curve in the DB, which means the woods were a different animal or idk what I'm talking about.

the wood ones used to be square-toe, i know because i used to use them for just a little bit. the recent composite blades were round-toe. i thought it was similar to nbh lindros, except i'm not sure about the lie.
