Get it free in the summer time, Hockey School i work for runs the rink in the summer and it is kind of like a bonus in the pay.Harbour Station - Where Saint John Sea Dogs play, QMJHLabout 190-210 per houri cant imagine paying anymore even for a NHL rink.."$200 an hour here at the Biddeford Ice Arena in Maine. The Portland Jr. Pirates just opened and brand new rink across town in Saco and the ice is also $200 an hour."Played in Biddeford over the Christmas break, older rink but for it's age in amazing condition and it is great to see a rink run so well, if you see any of their arena staff, give them the recgonition they deserve. No problem, I'm there like everyday. If you don't mind can i ask what team you play on.I play for Rothesay Netherwood School, a private School in Rothesay New Brunswick. We were there for the High School Invitational, I think we actually played the Biddeford High School team in that rink.

N!! 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I'm wondering if the warmer temps actually warrant gouging people for triple the price...and 20.00 for an hour of pick up, or if the warmer temps are just an excuse. I'd definitely like to know the truth behind this. The heat and humidity effect increases exponentially as it gets warmer. Obviously a 10-degree difference isn't huge when it's 7 or 17 degrees (Fahrenheit here, not Celsius), but the difference between 65 and 75 degrees or 80 degrees and 90 is staggering. Most Southern rinks are in a no-win situation. If they keep ice cheap then there's almost no ability to keep it running, but if the ice is more expensive to prevent that from happening then the ability of most to pay and use the ice goes down...thus reducing the ability to keep it running. hunterphfr 12 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Talking with one of the guys that runs hockey leagues at my local rink here in Florida and supposedly their elecric bill is herendous. He gave me a figure but there is no way I would repeat it here, for fear of looking like a moron. The other factor is up north (especially in Canada) alot of the rinks are owned/run by cities and counties which keeps rates low. South of the Mason/Dixon football, baseball and soccer fields are owned by government entities but not many if any rinks. The private for profit demands coupled with exorbitant electric costs to keep ice mediocre in high humidity/high temp weather is a killer on the players wallet. tbintexas 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 down here in Houston it's typically $325-$350 for prime-time, but I've been able to get it as low as $230 when signing a longer-term contract. Down here, we have ice during the extremely HOT and humid summer months - I've also hear electricty/cooling costs being multiple thousands of dollars per month and I can see it. I know my house's A/C runs almost 24 hours per day in the summer, and I can't imagine keeping a large 2-sheet building cool.

Of course, figure a blazing Alabama sun for 16 hours a day in the summertime being able to take a huge chunk out of an electric bill.Maybe we should look at forming an environmental coalition to see about making rinks across North America more energy-efficient. The biggest problem with getting newer players starting hockey is availability of ice, which is directly related to the cost of keeping a rink running. That's to say nothing of the enormous strain that rinks can put on a power grid or (depending on drought conditions) the water supply.Would anyone be interested in even looking at this as a possibility? Imagine a few hundred hockey fans working to make the game more accessible with a name like Green Ice or something.
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I've never been responsible for the bookings...but I think we pay around $120-150/hr at the community rinks, a little more at the Quad facility, and Copps Coliseum (Where the Bulldogs play) is about $400-450/hr. BigDipper 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Typical southern american costs. And i can see how it's justified due to the ridiculous air conditioning costs and rent these leaseholders pay. However it does put hockey generally out of reach for the middle-class type. Adult leagues down here are around 450-600 and that's only for 14 games at absolutely shitty times at night. Someone's getting rich and it sure isn't me.

Adult leagues figure out to about 200-300 per person with 11 regular season games, 1 practice sheet of ice, and 3 playoff games (or exhibition if you get eliminated). That's with a roster size of 15 I believe.

icedr 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2008 It's $180 for a half size rink and about $350 for a full size rink in Phoenix. $15 per hour for sticktime or drop in hockey which sometimes is full and sometimes you're the only one on the ice. Sticktime on a full size rink is almost impossible to find on a weekend during hockey season.
