CCM Vector 4.0's to 10.0's

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I apologize beforehand if this is a stupid question but I just wanted to be absolutely sure before I dropped the money.

I just picked up ice hockey about 4 months ago. I've played roller forever so I picked up ice skating pretty quickly and am pretty comfortable doing everything but stopping on my outside edges now. My first pair of skates were the CCM vector 4.0's (SE black ones)which I drove a few hours to buy from a LHS. I tried a bunch on and out of all the brands they felt the best by far.

I sprung for the 4.0's at the time due to cash and not being positive I would stick with ice. Now that I'm hopelessly HOOKED i want to grab a pair of closeout 10.0's (online) before my 1st season starts in March. I am a bigger skater (200+ lbs). Will the 10.0's fit basically the same as the 4.0 SE's ??? And do you think springing for really high end skates after only playing this long would be a bad idea? I'm afraid a lower end skate will break down quicker because of my weight and I want this next pair to last for the long run! Thank you

First of all the 10.0 are made with better materials, made stiffer, and are way more durable then the 4.0s you have now. Its like your comparing a Honda Fit to a Honda Accord V6 Coupe. Who do you think wins??

Top of the line skates, you are really paying for performance, not durability...

If there's anything to spend money on, it's skates. More important than a fancy new OPS.

Tell that to my Easton Z-Air Comp SEs.

3 years and it's still stiffer than most new mid-range skates. :D

Simply because those are probably the stiffest skates (shy of prostocks) to ever be made.

the leap from 4.0 to 10.0 is gonna be pretty significant. how often are you on the ice, anyway? the 10.0 will NOT be nearly as comfortable as your current 4.0s, at least for a while. i'd even consider the 8.0s, if you didn't want to drop as much cash. *very* slightly softer skate, and different asthetics, but pretty close.

i have the 10.0s, and it took approximately 6 hours of ice time to get them completely comfortable, just so you're aware.

Picked up a pair of 10.0, Made in Canada, not Thailand like the 6.0 I tired before two weeks ago. Out of the box, they should come with a bottle of Viagra, damn stiff. After baking, about five full length movies at home and two games, they are better. However, in my opinion I am still ways from leaving a couple to to eyelets open. Oh yeah, you are about the same size as me, maybe 10 lbs lighter, I do get skates extra tight (street 11 - 10SEs size8). But they are stiff!

Curious, are all 10SEs made in Canada?

Why exactly are prostock (custom) skates so stiff? When I ordered mine he said something about glue, but I can't imagine they would be that much stiffer.

why dont they want to stiffen their custom skates..? Its obvious they play everyday of the week almost and if you gave them a normal pair of vapor 40's they probably ruin them within a couple weeks.. its because of how often they are on the ice and shots at the boot...

I was asking how the construction process differs for custom skates, and why they are that much stiffer than retail.

Custom skates have the option to pick stiffness, they're not automatically stiffer skates.

No thanks. Coming from Graf's these CCMs were a torture enough for me. I did try the 40's and 25's. No thanks, felt like I had my heel in a vice.

if you think the 10s are stiff you sude try vapor 40's (my god wot a stiffy :o )
