Tapered Shaft - Wood Blade

Recommended Posts

i just started using a tapered shaft with a wood blade and it feels great.

V130---CCM 892?

better feel on the blade.. I honestly might drop 1pc's for go0d.

I didnt like the 892 as much as my old Mission wood blades, not sure why though and it might have just been the one I tried

I might be picking up a Dolo tonight and pairing it with an Easton Synergy woodie, so I'll check back in after a couple days.

Seems like the xxx wood blade is common enough, I can only find two stores with easton sythesis wood blades...

any experience with a xxx blade an synergy II shaft?

I tried it out but didn't like it too much. I was back to OPS pretty quick. It's just my PP though.

same here... I am currently using the sackic curve in a standard shaft.. I can only find synthesis woodies online... I was looking to find a pattern that is easy to find...the xxx's look to be everywhere... i remember bauer 3030 wood sticks being pretty decent

did you switch because you hated the xxx blade? or because you dont like the wood/tapered shaft combo?

Right now I'm using the synergy II with a wood synergy sakic blade and I like it a lot. Problem... I'm having a hard time finding more of the tapered easton wood blades. Wondering if anyone knows where to find more online or at a LHS. I'm in the metro detroit area. Thanks.

wood blade + tapered shaft is uber dreamy. deffinately the danglers choice.

i used to have a few 85 flex t-flex shafts with some fresh lindros blades,

pure heaven. i find softer flex shafts are better, you might get away with a 100

synergy or something, but shafts tend to be a bit stiffer.

ps, please never flip your synergy over! cut it and slap a short hosel in thurr.!!!

For the longest time I used a UL with a wood blade and I loved that stick. Bought a Synthesis from a friend and put a Comp tapered blade and the shot was great but it never felt right. Its almost like there was no dampening what so ever. I went out and bought a Synergy SE, and again I hated it because there is no Dampening. So I cut it down and had bought some Easton pro returns for my M1(I wish I had another one)and put it in the SE. Wow now that stick is amazing, it has great feel, Shot is awesome. Actually had my best game the other night with it. Im sold on tapered shaft and blade combo. A OPS would have to be rather amazing to ever whitch again.

I just wish that there was more selection out there.

I use a 2 piece exclusively and wood plus tapered works well for roller on ice I prefer a composite blade and shaft combo. Need that extra kick for max puck flight

I've used a tapered/wood combo and love the feel. I currently am going with a comp blade b/c it gives me a better slapshot (better being relative) but want to go back to wood at some point.

There are two drawbacks:

1. The wood seems to get "soggy" as some people put it. I remove remove tape immediately after use and apply wax after I retape but it still seems to lose some oomph after only a couple of uses.

2. It seems as if the wood doesn't turn out as consistent as comps - I've seen slight variations from batch to batch.

I've only used the tapered Christian/Harrows by the way.

I used cut synergy's or a synthesis with wooden blades for 2-3 seasons before eventually wanting to try a one-piece due to them being cheaper. I got used to the ops after a while and loved the lightweight (7k) and when it broke I bought an SL cause it was cheap and I liked the weight. the blade's just too hard for me and I cant get used to it, I have a si-core blade in my synthesis as well and its better than the sl's but when those sticks go im going to wood again and never going back.

What is the best wood blade to pair with the Easton Synergy II shaft?

This shaft is extremely light...i get the feeling that most wood blades would make it blade heavy... are there any other blades out there (wood or composite) that give it as good a balance as the Synergy Blade that is made to be paired with it?

would the NBH xxx lite woodies be balanced?

Synergy wood blade, in my experience. Very light, stiff (for wood), and reasonable durable. I've used several Bauers (not the XXX) and been let down by the durability and stiffness. The TPS wood blade seemed pretty similar to the Easton.

That's why i don't use wood. What good is a blade that gets soft so quick.

I've used a couple of the easton synthesis wood blades and they lasted quite a while, they actually started to break away at the top before anything, that may be it's only flaw.

i find it more cost-efficient for me to use comp than wood. they just split too quick, and the lack of stiffness doesn't make up for the supposed improvement in feel.

Agreed. I love the feel of a fresh wood blade, but it's not worth it lasting a week or so of play.
