TCsnipes9 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 One thing youll notice too is that even down the road, it'll start to ache especially when it gets cold. I did it two years in a row to the same knee and now (2 years later) it always seems to ache if im outside or even in the rink. I had a brace from the sports doc, and I believe it was made by Bregg? It was pretty heavy-duity, and although it fit alright under my shins, I needed to get new ones once I could shed the brace. It made the knee portion of them wider than the non-braced knee.As others have said, DONT rush it. For sure do the Physical Therapy, because if you dont strengthen and tighten everything, it will continue to be able to slide. Good luck in your recovery. monoclub 5 Report post Posted February 7, 2008 Like many on here I have a long history of knee injuries and surgeries, primarily due to dislocations. The single most important thing I would impress upon you is the physical therapy. Once the swelling and tenderness subsides usually about 10 days to two weeks you can start. Start with stationary flexing and trying to increase your exstention - range of motion, bearing weight on it. Don't be afraid of a little pain - as long as it is dull pain not sharp! As it improves progress to small squats, running in a pool with the water at chest level to reduce weight on the joint, small stepping up and down - adjust the height (you may start with just 4-6inches, also adjust the amount of weight you put on the knee as you improve. Good Luck!

I had it custom-made and have worn it ever since I was able to play again, so for three years plus now
Jim A 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 one of the things i was told to do when mine was dislocated was to get back into putting pressure on it slowlyi went from being on crutches and non weight bearing to staying on them and being partial weight bearing, etc to using them part of the day and so on...it seemed to work well rather than going from nothing to full pressure..
