Short hosel wood blades...

Recommended Posts

I'm having a hell of a time finding short hosel wood blades. Perfection would be a Forsberg clone (a lower lie would be nice) in wood, similar to the Easton ST (yellow one). Any ideas?

Edit: And just in case I'm unclear, I really mean low kickpoint, short hosel wood blades.

could you not just cut the hosel to make it shorter???

I've never heard of a short hosel standard wood blade, sorry.

Curious. Wonder if that's due more to physics or economics. Probably both.

Sorry, I edited my post earlier to make sure I included the most relevant bit, low kickpoint. My bad for not being as detailed as I could.

got some mission ether blades that I can let go for real cheap. never used them before, they came part of a package deal.

Are those the ones that fit into the team comp ether? I have one of the shafts and I can't fit a standard blade into it...or have I not tried hard enough?

Used to love the standard Vapor short hosel wood blades from back in the day. But as Chadd said, Christian has a version.

Whats the advantage of the short hosel if it is not going into a tapered shaft? Weight reduction?

Yeah for the old Mission shafts "Ether" is the lingo for tapered

They're stiff as hell. I used to break hosels - along the hosel, not directly in half.

Yep. It's the added stiffness at the blade that I like about them. I also like the feel of wood. I took a look a the Christian website as per Chadd, but the only wood blades I saw in standard were long (11") hosel. Do these just have low kickpoints or...? Thanks for the helpful replies, everyone.

I used to stock the short hosel standards, looks like it may be a custom option only now.

Yeah, the blade order form is set up so that one could get a short hosel standard setup, but they don't appear to have them prefabbed. Oh well, maybe it's time for me to go the custom route anyway...

Edit: After a quick look at Hockeyworld.com, I see that the Koho Bullet 2290 and the Montreal CMX both look to be what I want. I haven't ever seen the patterns they offer in person, however.

If done properly, could you cut and sand down a couple of inches off a regular wood blade to achieve the same result or does it screw with the integrity of the blade?

You might be able to get away with it.

I used to have a intermediate synergy (flipped to use the top end) and I shaved down a standard blade to fit it into the shaft...

I've got about a dozen tapered wooden blades now if anyone is interested....

what is the advantage of it being stiff as hell ? improved puck handling, shooting maybe ?

I tried a short hosel standard blade before and found it good for battling for the puck in the corners.

As others have stated, you can sometimes sand down standard wood blades, but I don't trust them as much as they generally break off faster.
