Lidstrom Hurt....

Recommended Posts

I was watching the game and saw the hit...it was a big clean hit...Lidstrom was just hit at a weird angle with the way his legs were positioned. At first I just thought he was woozy because he caught some of the shoulder on his jaw and banged his head pretty good.....but hate to see a classy player like Lidstrom go down, hopefully it wont be to bad or too long before he can get back out there

Geki, true, I mean the whole McLeod thing was ridiculous with him swinging his stick. I forgot to mention that I didn't think he was innocent by any means but to literally choke hold someone by your stick, wow.

I too agree, the hit was clean, as an Avs fan I still think though that Lidstrom is the best defense man of all time. Tough break but it was weird seeing Lidstrom all woozy and gone out there as its very rarely he gets caught in a hit like that. Hope he recovers quickly, the guy is a genius on the blueline.

About the game though, it looked like the Avs didn't even know what they were doing. The Wings just took it to them all night. Ugh, I was talking to my buddies at practice last night and told them how I was hoping the Avs would pull the 8 seed so they could knock the Wings out in the first round...now I'm rethinking that whole situation. :(

I guess the old Wings Avs rivalry is still ongoing.

It will never be the same as the mid-late nineties. Not even close.

just a small update - he hints at it being more than just his knee

http://redwings.nhl.com/team/app/?service=...rticleid=354041

"DETROIT – Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom will have his injured right knee re-examined on Wednesday morning before meeting with team physicians to discuss any prognosis.

“The knee feels sore and a little bit swollen,” Lidstrom told DetroitRedWings.com. “I'll have an MRI in the morning.”

Lidstrom’s injury occurred in the first period of Monday’s game at Colorado’s Pepsi Center. He was sent into the boards as a result of a monstrous check from the Avs’ Ian Laperriere at about the six-minute mark of the period.

“I have a pretty good mark on my chin where he hit me,” said Lidstrom, a five-time Norris Trophy winner. “Whether he tried to or not, I don't know, but he followed through and finished with his elbow up on my chin and that's when my head went back into the glass.”

Lidstrom appeared to be woozy as he was helped from the ice by trainer Piet Van Zant and teammate Henrik Zetterberg.

“I don't have a headache or anything,” Lidstrom said."

I agree, i don't think the Avs and Wings rivalry will ever get as intense are the one in the nineties, which had a lot of hitting, fights, and brawls, which will not happen with the present day Wings and Avs in my opinion.

there is no way it will ever be the same....there was soooo much hatred between those two teams it was always marked on the calender as THE GAME to watch and when they would meet in the playoffs even more hatred.....as a fan you just had to love it, and if you didn't then man you had to be a nut job

Coming from a wings fan Id say it was a clean hit besides the part at the end with Laperriere's elbow hitting lidstroms jaw into the glass... not sure how many of u saying it was a "clean" hit noticed that tid bit probably didn't look that close at it but had he not done that at the end i wouldn't have thought it was a "dirty" hit cuz for the most part it wasn't but that elbow up made it pretty bad. Also wtf is Laperriere running that hard a person like listrom in the first place? Im not saying u can't hit lidstrom but geez u don't need to run him through the glass thats alittle rediculous.. i realise its a physical game but u can just rub him out of the play, i think thats the other reason lidstrom got hurt i don't think he expected to get run over like that

Its the NHL, when you see a guy like Lapierrier coming at you, brace yourself because you're not getting hit by Corey Perry.

I said it before, clean hit, elbow came up on the force of the follow through.
