Rocknrons bearings?

Recommended Posts

played my first game with the Ballistech Missiles tonight, no subs of course. The bearings are good, nice smooth ride, when I wanted to pick it up a step they complied nicely. At this point I'd recommend them, we'll see if there are any longevity issues.

He claims that they are far superior to swiss bearings. From your experiences is this true or not? How would you say they compare with a good set of swiss bearings?

I'd say pretty comparable to Swiss bearings.

So you want to buy new wheels, to be able to fit new bearings? I say no. Wait until your wheels are done AND you need new bearings.

I have skated on both swiss and now the ballistic missiles. IMO they are very, very close(far superior may be a stretch).. I can not comment on the durability since I have only skated on them for a handful of times.

I'm happy with the stage 2's and the Ballistech missiles, and they're cheaper than Bones. Both sets are holding up fine, good spin, good feel.

sorry to revive this thread from the grave - but what is your guys opinion on these after having them for a while?

would you say that this are better than the bones ceramic bearings? are they easier to clean or can withstand more abuse from dust/dirt?

the best ones he makes are only 85 bucks - how do they compare to the $175 powell swiss bones ceramic bearings?

if you were going to play outdoors and possibly get the bearings dirty which would be the best to buy and easiest to clean?

I've emailed him 3 times with no response either.

Really dissapointing too, i'd really like to try these bearings out.

So tonight I suited up for a game and while streching in the locker room I heard a noise from one of my wheels, I checked and the bolt was a little loose. I tightened it and gave the wheel a spin and it barely moved. I spun all the wheels and noticed the back two were about the same, barely spinning, I checked the frame to see if it was maybe bent, it was not. I reversed the wheel and that didnt help. I then checked the other skate and the same thing was happening, three of the four wheels would barely move. I skated in the game anyway and could really notice that my back wheels were slowing me down, especially at lower speeds.

I don't know when this started, I took a few weeks off roller for some ice hockey tourneys and such, but I will say that I have been skating on these bearings an average of twice a week for about six months, all indoors. I swapped them out tonight for some swiss bearings I've used for more than two years and those are spinning just fine.

I should say that I never cleaned these bearings, but to be fair, I never clean any of my bearings. I skated a set of Bones Swiss for close to four years and never had them slow down too much and definitlty not lock up like these did. The Bones bearings are completely open on the inside too, the Rocking Rons have shields on both sides so you'd figure they would be a little more able to keep stuff out that might slow up the bearing.

My reasoning for not cleaning bearings anymore is that back when I was learning to play roller, I skated outdoors a lot and cleaned my bearings a lot too. I found that regardless of how meticulous you were in cleaning, drying, greasing, and reassembling, you could never get a bearing to spin as well as it did when it was new or even before you took it apart.

I stopped wiping the dirt off of my bearings too as I noticed that wiping them just served to help push dirt past the seals inside the bearing cage itself. If you left a layer of dirt/dust built up on the outside of the bearing it would help serve as a barrier to keep other crap out.

So I just wanted to pass along that I'm not all that pleased with these. I expect a bearing to maintainence free, most good swiss bearing are just that, if you're going to say that your bearings are better than swiss, they better live up to that statement and these do not.

I'm running into that with the Ballistechs after I cleaned them last weekend. The Stage 2's seem all the better for it though, nice that the lower end bearing is fine and the pricier one is the one giving issues.

The Stage 2's have been cleaned twice now, as I was using them outdoors all summer, and they feel great, I might throw the Ballistechs through one more cleaning just to see if it helps.

2 months after skating on these things the back 2 sets on each skate froze. and the rest squeek. i've only used them indoors....

so i switched back to bones because they were smother in the first place.

to fix the ron's i poped the outer sheild and lubed them up with yomega yo-yo lube. i used the yo-yo lube because it's made for bearing for the first place. and it's a lighter oil. not a grease. annnnnnnd i'm broke. and it was all i had.

anyway the bearing came back to life. with a little squeek here and there.

bottom line. go swiss bones.
