chippa13 1844 Report post Posted February 25, 2008 The goalie thing was actually kind of not preventable. I had no idea it was pissing him off, I didn't know that what he thought should have been called for slashing. If anyone had said something I would have stopped it. I attributed it mostly to frustrations of being down and out in the first round of the playoffs.Goalies hate guys poking at their glove or infringing on their territory. Trust me, it might look like nothing but goalies hate it.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 But any goalie with a brain knows the difference between a slap and a poke.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 I do it all the time. But you have to know the difference between a poke and a jab. The defensemen have a bigger issue with it than most goalies.
ctaz 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Yeah, but even so some are still a lot more OCD about sticks poking them after a cover. I'm more laid back as long as it's within reason when I'm in net.Although, I would have loved to smack the ref who in a USAH rec adult league game decided to be a smartass to me when I had a concern about my safety and the safety of my teammates. background: I'm in a foot race for a loose puck, I get about 2 strides on the guy, get to the puck and he gives me a nice shot in the back straight on the number. At which point I slide headfirst from about the hash marks to the end boards. I turn just enough to take it on my shoulder, get up get to the slot, the puck comes and a pass it to a teammate for a breakout. A few seconds later one of their guys comes in and stands me up. I should have been paying attention, but again it was a check. I wasn't that mad about that not being called. Boards hurt worse. So I go talk to one of the refs and say "you're gonna get me killed" to which he retorts "how am I going to get you killed, I'm not playing". I said "you need to get control of this game" again he says "I'm not playing, I don't control the game, I just call penalties". After that type of reply, I just laughed at him and skated away knowing it wasn't going anywhere. Later that same period one of our guys crosses the blue line and starts to go around the D, as he does the D-man lifts his stick and gets our guys skates even as our guy tries to jump over the stick. Ends up tripping our guy up and our guy lands on the ice and is shaken pretty badly. The refs wouldn't even blow the play dead to see if our guy was alright. I'm sorry if someone lands towards their head and is down on the ice for like 5 seconds in what looks like pain blow the damn whistle. It's not even like I cared if they called a penalty for what I felt was a trip, I could care less about that it's more of them putting players on either team at risk like that. Some refs make me wonder. Others, I have a great relationship with, we see many of the same refs over and over again and I've been playing long enough (skating out and in-net) that most of us have a good mutual respect for one another. They joke about how I've forgotten how to skate, I joke about how they can't even pick the puck out off the goalies glove some nights. Most of the good refs here, even as inconsistant as they can be know that how you call the game has an affect on how out of control the game becomes later on. I'd rather have them call the game tight the first half period or so and slowly ease down the calls so that the game will be safe for the most part. No need to worry about players taking dangerous slashes and checks.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Yeah but those are just the goalie version of beer league heroes. Hot heads that get pissed when you deke instead of just shooting because you're "trying to show off."
ctaz 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 lol they're also probably the fools wearing roller hockey gear for ice.
