Possible to fix this Aluminum shaft?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for an aluminum Christian shaft for a few years now. I used to use them growing up and my parents threw all mine away long ago.

Someone gave this to me and I was hoping to have it fixed. I've never gonna use it but I'd like to know I could if need be.

Has anyone ever had an Aluminum shaft TIG Welded? Any other ideas?

I wish it was long enough that I could cut the broken part off but it's barely the right length as is and with a 9" extension.

There's this welding shop in town that I think might be able to fix it. I've seen evidence of him weld the opening in an aluminum pop can shut.

Thanks.

I would imagine that it wouldn't be worth the effort. First, you have to cut along the edges so there is a spot for the metal to go. Then you have to go super slow so you dont warp the metal. Then you have to grind the metal down to make it smooth. After all that, it's still more than likely going to be prone to breakage because of flexing.

A good welder could weld that. I'd also see if he could add a brace via strap welded around the shaft.

You are going to spend some coin though.

I'm sure they have them in the back.... They disappeared before only to reappear years later. Any time that shelf gets thin the criminally old crap comes out to play.

Just called and talked to someone and bought the last 2 they had. White with red lettering with christian blades. $40 a pop. :-)

Thanks for the tip Keith!
