skate ankle protection guards

Just a question for everyone. I noticed that guys like pronger wear skate pads to protect their foot from slapshots. Does anybody here wear them? Do they affect your skating by weighing you down?

i wear a pair. my dad makes them for me and my team mates they only weight little over 3 ounces, so i cant tell a difference, iv never tried or seen a professionally made pair though.

I remember having a pair in the 80's made by Cooper. They had a buckle & strap that went round the ankle & a small hook that attached to the laces at the tongue.
