Eagle X5/X6 Pro Stocks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've been reading this forum for months and this is my first post. Please go easy on me.

Anyway, I just recently got my annual bonus and of course that means I'm going spend it (helping out the economy in a recession). So I'm looking to get some sweet gloves. I've got my eye on Eagle Pro Stock X5/X6 at EWH as they are at my price range and seem like a good deal. The X72s seem sick - everyone here seems to love them but they are probably above my price range for what I'd like to spend.

I searched for a while but didn't find a ton of specifics on the X5/X6 (search for X5 or X6 doesn't work and I went through 11 pages of searches using "eagle") and have some questions for the experts here, especially since the pro stocks may differ a bit from the retails.

1. Most importantly I'm wondering about size. I've been a consistent 13.5 in Eastons for years now. They are the perfect size for me. How does that compare to Eagle's sizing? Should I be looking at 13" (X5) or 14" (X6)?

2. Shell. Portofino/Nylon. I like the fact that the nylon shell on these pro stocks are going to keep weight down and break-in minimal. I play once a week and don't plan on playing more than that. Should I expect these to last me a while or should I look into portofino on the retails. How do these compare in terms of durability and weight?

3. Are the pro stocks made in Canada or China like the regular retails?

4. I know the retail version does not have it, but do these have the lock-thumb? I would imagine it would if it is a pro stock and it seems from the pics to have it but I can't say for sure.

I apologize for the lengthy post but I can assure you I appreciate any feedback. I want to pull the trigger on these soon and get them in my possession if they seem like a good purchase.

Thanks!!

1) I'm not positive on the x5/x6 model, but I've always found eagles to fit a bit bigger/looser. So, depending on how your eastons fit you, I would say go 13".

2) I would definitely go nylon, I tried nylon gloves a couple of years ago and have been using them ever since. They are lighter, easier to break in and dry faster than leather. Overall, I find nylon to be superior to leather when it comes to gloves.

As for questions 3 abd 4, I don't really know. I hope this helps.

X6 would be the closest fits like a 13.5 with an open cuff. X series in Eagle is made in overseas. gloves made in canada are really usually $150 and higher. You can also call any store that carries (lots of stores carry x series) and ask them specifics. Most x5/x6 have a lock thumb.

I didnt look at the site, but these are custom right? That would make them Canadian made.

I'd call up and ask for Jason. He will give you better information than we can because he ordered them, he's not just looking at a pic.

I'm going to take a guess here and say they're made in China. Every pair of Made In Canada Eagles I've seen have the little Canadian flags on the gloves.

Not to hijack the thread too much, but how do the X6 gloves compare with other Eagle gloves...aside from being made in China what sets them apart from say the X70s or other gloves?

I found a pair of all nylon R8s on HG for the same price and was wondering how they matched up.

Thanks

-Phil

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'm still up in the air a bit but I might give Jason at EWH a call before I put the order through or head over to Pure Hockey to see on the sizing.
