Itunes / Ipod Touch help

Recommended Posts

After a nasty virus my computer got whiped clean the other day. I have around 15GB of music on my Ipod Touch and an empty Itunes.

Any suggestions how I can get the songs off my Ipod and back into my i-tunes?

I've tried i-dump and it is not compatable with Ipod Touches and i have also tried uninstalling i-tunes and using my ipod as a external hard drive but it isnt recognized,

Please help before I have to convert all my cd's again

You can only use an iPod as an external hard drive if you set it as such in the first place (in other words, you wouldn't have been able to listen to your songs). The only iPod's I ever had were first-gen Shuffle's and 2nd-gen Nano's, so I can't say for sure what type of upgrades there have been, as far as transferring files, but I'm pretty sure you're stuck ripping your CD's again.

if you have the iPod set up to "Enable disc use", you'd still be fine to listen to the contents...

Check out programs like PodUtil, or something in the like. ILounge.com has a lot of tutorials for restoring music from your iPod to PC... however, it needs to be set up to do so before the issue arises.

Try senuti. I tunes backwards. My friend had to totally redo his computer and erased all his music, but was able to transfer everything back from his ipod using senuti. He has an Ipod touch too.

I've never had an ipod...just a generic small (512M) USB MP3 player. I'm thinking about getting an 8G Touch, but I want to make aure I understand how an ipod and computer interact first.

Your songs are on your HD in whatever fodler they've always been in...and itunes is needed to organize/transfer them to the ipod...but once they are on the ipod...you can't send them back to the computer...? Or, am I misunderstanding the interaction of the device and the computer?

And, if you remake a playlist within itunes, does that playlist automatically transfer to teh ipod when you connect it, or can the 2 have different songs/playlists laid out. I really have no intention of using itunes as a player outside of HAVING to use it as the transfer software for the ipod.

Also, for those who have touch's (specifically Canadians) do you have a hard time getting a WiFi connection, or is it fairly easy to find service? I'd hate to have the ting, and find that all the available wireless signals are secured and not accessible.

I've been a 8gb iPod Touch owner for about a week now, I've previously owned a first gen iPod Nano 2gb. I made the switch because the Nano battery didn't hold a charge long enough for my liking.

RadioGaGa, you pretty much know how it works... you can add files and folders to your iTunes library and then update your iPod with them. Files only go in one direction (from Computer to your iPod) but I'm pretty sure there are third party applications that you can download to do otherwise like what some of the previous posters have mentioned.

Just to throw this in here, iTunes is the worst software I've ever used. I miss being able to open up "My Computer" to drag and drop all my songs onto my MP3 player. I hate how long it takes iTunes to start up. It also takes an outrageously long time to transfer your songs compared to drag and drop.

As for wireless availability, it all depends on where you live. There's a bunch of protected wireless connections where I live, but when I go to my buddy's house there's nothing but unprotected connections.
