Spending $ on House vs. Saving for College

Recommended Posts

There are times to capture and cherish when they happen. Living with friends is never one of those times. Never live with friends. They're called roommates for a reason and not "friends who pay 1/3 of my rent and we get long like peas and carrots."

Mack, I think that's the most sensible thing you've ever said :P

I'm serious...

I myself. 19 years of age, would take your situation of the house. My conscience is telling me though to tell you to stay at home. Living away from home would be the shit and drinking and having parties a lot would also be grand. There's also a great amount of baggage with living with friends. My friends are my friends but what whoever said above me and so forth is right. Friends can be fucking annoying. At the end of the day do you wanna live with your buddies who may be lazy or too noisy and disrespectful to you.

I'm torn in two about what to say. Guess I just wasted some space to vent.

Currently living with "friends." You definitely get distanced and tired of each other quickly, no question. All the fun and "parties" that you think will happen, happen a few times, if at all, then real life kicks in and you don't have the time or energy to do anything much. It's not going to be horrible or unenjoyable, but don't head into it thinking that it's going to be utopia compared to living at home. It's not.

Now is the time here for the real estate market here apparently, I'm saving up for a down payment on my first house to pull out a hefty mortgage ill be paying most my life. I'm only 20 right now so I'm pretty fortune to be in the position to get my own place. I'll actually have 3 of my friends staying in rooms of my house paying around $200 a pop, taking a nice chunk off each payment for me.

stay at home as long as possible...you don't realize how many expenses you end up with once you leave. Everything from cleaning supplies to batteries to toothpaste haha, you end up paying for, and it takes a hit on your wallet, i promise. college is expensive, and avoiding having all your own expenses for as long as you can is a good thing.

While I'd normally agree and know first hand that living with friends almost never works out, I think this case might be different. If they're staying together for only two months or so, I don't think all the long term problems will come up. It wouldn't be permanent, so hopefully the newness of everything will prevent the conflicts that inevitably come up.
