Sharpening question

Recommended Posts

After switching to custom+ I decided I wanted a little more forward pitch, so last time I got my skates sharpened I had the sharpener profile the blades forward. Worked out great and my skates feel like I want them to. Question is, do I need to ask for the forward pitch eveytime I get them sharpened, or just occasionally, or was once enough? Thanks boys and girls!

A bad sharpener can mess it up. As long as you choose your sharpener carefully, you'll be OK for the season. Each sharpening alters it just a little bit so I recommend getting it redone every 12-18 sharpenings.

I couldn't agree more...

sitzlejd, where did you have your skates done? I haven't found someone I'm comfortable with here in Cincy and nobody is going to let me use their machine to do it myself.

I get mine done at Goggin Ice Center at Miami University. I'm pretty sure the guy who sharpens/profiles/etc. is the equipment tech for the RedHawks. I've never gotten a bad sharpen but obviously it's about an hour drive from Downtown Cincy. The other problem is they never sharpen while you wait, saying it will be 24 hours before your skates are ready. If you still want to get it done up here it's $6 for a sharpen and $8 if you want them sharpened and profiled. I'm dreading when I have to get sharpened at Sports Plus again after I graduate. That place is a crapshoot...

Thanks for the info.

In my limited experience around these parts Sports Plus seems to be the only choice in metro Cincy (excluding Oxford)...crap shoot is exactly how I would describe the results you'll get though.
