Shattered Heel Bone

Recommended Posts

Well this weekend was not a good one. My team was in the USA Hockey rocky mountain regionals for minor aa. We definitely should have won but we lost to one of the worst teams in it in the semi finals. To make it worse, in the game before I got hit on a slight break a way and slid full speed feet first into the end boards behind the net and shattered my right heel bone. The collision cracked the side of my 9k skate boot. I'm going in for surgery tomorrow most likely. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Yep, that is an amazingly painful thing to do. I did it once, and luckily did not break anything. You gotsta keep a slight bend in your knees if you are going to train wreck into the boards! Stiff legged, it is like a guy hitting the bottoms of both feet with a sledge hammer!

I told my kid once, who was showing off on how quickly he could stop just short of the boards, that that is a dumb thing to show off doing, just incase he ever lost an edge!

I fractured my heel in a trampoline stunt gone bad.....didn't make it into the pool, instead landed on the concrete bare foot from about 14' up. Not a good day. I didn't have surgery on it, but was in a heavily padded soft cast for 8 weeks. Excrutiating when I did it, and VERY tender for about 4 weeks. At the end of 8, it felt ok, but.....vague if that is anyway to explain it. Simply constantly weary about doing anything on it for another month or so. Best of luck though!!

That almost makes me sick thinking about it...

The problem with growing up and realizing your caliber of athleticism is that you always think that you can keep pushing your limits. Unfortunately during my cycling career.....I reached and passed my limits, thus I have been coming down off of that precipice for about 10 years now since that career ended. DOH!!!

Not surprising, Forsberg91, given your username.

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing when I seen his username and the title of the topic. Tough luck though about the injury. Sounds like it hurt like hell.
