Helmet Replacement

My son, a mite, took a very hard hit yesterday and slammed his head on the ice pretty hard enough to warrant a trip to the ER to rule out a concussion.

Are hockey helmets like bike helmets....do they need to be replaced after a hard hit?

He has a CCM 492

There are no cracks in the outer shell and the cushioning is intact.

The cushioning is the white foam, not the polystyrene closed cell kind.

I've always been told to replace a helmet after a hard blow to it. Remember, it protects your brain.

I don't think it's safe to be advised not to replace a helmet over the internet especially if nobody saw the hit or the helmet.

It's a 492 so it has VN. I would upgrade and get a 692 or 892. Doesn't hurt to replace it, VN isn't going to crack like bike helmet foam does to absorb the hit(EPP can).

492 is kind of low end with VN.

692(what I use) is single density VN.

892 is dual density VN.
