Any info/reviews of Graf skates?

Recommended Posts

A little background.

I play roller hockey 2-3 times a week. And I grew up playing Ice Hockey since I was 4 years old.

I have used Bauers, CCM's, Nikes, Easton's, but never Grafs.

I have a narrow foot, and just can't seem to find a skate that fits well anymore.

It's time for new skates, and was wondering how the Graf's fit?

I will be in these skate 3-4 times a week, and I need something that will feel good.

Do we have any Graf users on here, and can they offer any advice as to what skate I might like?

Scott

Odds are if you have narrow feet you will like the 3 series (703/G3/G3 Ultra) or 5 series (705/G5/G5 ultra) depending on your foot type exactly

I have narrow feet and I wear a G3 Ultra R Width no problem. The volume of the G3 Ultra is what really makes the skate awesome for me, I need skates with with low volume and they are spot on.. I did a pencil test and it is spot on.

I would personally go to a place where they know how to fit skates. Go in with a completely open mind set, don't set your self on one skate.. try them all on, in the end, pick which ever fits best. Odds are though there will be a Graf that fits your foot because they build skates to fit many different foot types.

The heel is equally narrow in both the G3 and G35. The G35 is a hybrid of the G3 and the G5.

This table has been floating around for a while.

Thanks everyone.

I think I am looking into the G5's right now.

I just hope the toe cap isnt too narrow. Thats my biggest problem, I find a comfy skate, but the toe cap pinches my toes.

i just picked up a pair of g5 ultras and like someone else on this forum has said, it feels like it was made for my feet. i owned a pair of 703s before and they pinched my toes but when i moved up to the g5, all of the hot spots, such as the ones on my heels and toes were gone. The tongue is so perfect on this skate that i can crank the hell out of my laces and i still won't get lace bite.

So if you're having troubles with a narrow boot like the 703/g3, the 705/g5 is probably your best bet.

i can't wait to go skate in them tonight!

Scott, Graf skates have very narrow toe-caps. They are, however, very easy to stretch if your LHS knows what they're doing.

Are they all pitched the same? I had a hell of a time skating in a pair last time I owned some.

I hear ya. I went from 952 Kevlar CCM skates with Pro Lites to the Graf 707. Took me a little bit of time to get adjusted. Hell, I fell on my ass a couple times going backwards.

The Graf's have a very aggressive stance to them. But once you get used to them, not only will you skate better, you will skate faster as well.

I tried on some G5's tonight at my LHS, and WOW they fit amazing!

I will however be ordering them online to try and save a few bucks.

I felt instantly like I wanted to take a stride in the G5's...they fit that good.

Unless your lhs is selling their Graf skates at a rediculously high price, you should consider buying from them rather than an internet store. If you purchase from your lhs you may come out even compared to purchasing online. Your lhs will most likely give you the first sharpening for free and they probably won't charge you if you get your skates baked. Also, many shops will stretch or modify your skates for you free of charge if you have any discomfort. If you buy from an internet store, your lhs will most likely charge you for baking your skates and any other little things that need to be done. Also, if you have any defect or warranty issues, dealing with an internet store may be a real headache. Your lhs will be able to do a better job helping you out if you have any warranty related issues. Support your lhs :).

i just came back from skating in the g5 ultras...i'm pretty disappointed haha. I knew there was going to be more ankle freedom but I feel MUCH worse of a skater compared to when I was in my synergy 800c's (and I already tie them fairly loose up top!). Backwards skating is easier(more stable) though but that might have more to do with the longer runner and different profile (i swapped my razrbladz 2 for lightspeed 2s on the 800c's). I'm definitely getting plenty of knee bend but cross overs are a bitch right now....grafs are definitely not as stiff laterally as other skates.

i'm a little disheartened but I'm far from giving up. hopefully the next few skates will show improvement. just gotta keep on strengthening those ankles....

You really have to give yourself a little time to adjust to the Grafs. They are just a slightly different concept in skates compared to some other popular models on the market. They are a little more old school than most other models but adjustment will eventually come. You'll be glad you stuck with them comfortwise especially.

Right on #28.

I think I will take your advice, as the internet prices are about the same for the G5's.

went for my second skate today...they felt MUCH better. you're right, duch, it just takes some time getting used to the differences. I have to note that I swapped out the stock insoles for my grey superfeet. Probably the best $35 I spent, hockey-gear wise.

stock insoles never really fit that great.

I use the Walmart brand foot insert with the memory foam, and my feet don't slide in the boot.

It's all personal preference, i guess.

You will love the G5's once you get used to them.

So i'd hate to hack this form but if my heel is slipping out of vapor xxx's does that mean I have a narrow heel ?

because I like the supra g3's I tried on but I really wanna make sure seeing as their 400 dollars.

Thanks.

It sounds like you have a narrow heel to me. Have you tried a different insole? Maybe a memory foam style? It might be a cheaper alternative before you spend the 400 bucks.

But rest assured, go to a LHS, try on the G3's and you will probably buy them. They fit well better then any other skate I have ever used.

Good chart, though, the G70 is NOT hinged like the 707 and is quite deep.
