Zamboni 6 Report post Posted March 29, 2008 Were in a Toronto suburb and had 5 families over last night for a get-together, cards/chips....kids watching a movie. I insisted on pausing kids dvd to check on Habs-Sabres game....4 minutes left and down 3-1. House full of Leafs fans, all had something to say despite their teams dismal season. Habs won 4-3, and 2 of the leafs dads kids are going to pick up for Montreal now....it was just eating their parents up. Had to share this, even my wife told me to STFU. Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 That's why I pick a West team to back if my B's don't make the playoffs. I own a Sharks hat because of this.
Viking 1 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 When the Senators are out, I don't cheer for anyone, I just cheer against the teams that I hate the most. Or I just watch baseball.
gymmonster 4 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 I never understood cheering for rival teams once your team was out of the playoffs. Everyone in vancouver (well practically) were cheering for Calgary and Edm when they made their run to the Cup finals saying that at least a Canadian team would win.....umm OK? because other teams don't have Canadian players? What difference does it make if a Canadian team wins the Cup? Every team has different players from all over......I think it's just your typical case of vancouverite bandwagonism.....

warrior37 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 are you serious? didnt anaheim have the most canadian born players in the nhl last season, hell look at the bulk of all of those teams, canadian players.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 Yet those teams represent cities in the US, whose fans mostly reside in those cities, who mainly fund those teams. Just because most of the ducks are Canadian doesn't mean they have moved Anaheim over the border.
gymmonster 4 Report post Posted March 31, 2008 are you serious? didnt anaheim have the most canadian born players in the nhl last season, hell look at the bulk of all of those teams, canadian players.that's the point I'm trying to make not sure if I articulated it though. Doesn't matter what city it is.....I mean if you're happy that Canadians get the win the Cup, well I mean there are Canadians on cup winning teams even though the city that they play for is not canadian......might as well cheer for every team that has a Canadian that plays in the Cup final. I'm just saying that in my own opinion saying that cheering for a team that represents a Canadian city is not what I would consider a really solid reason to do so once your team has been eliminated from the playoffs...like what happened in Vancouver (and probably all over Canada) when the Oilers and Flames made their cup run. I'm not taking anything away from the teams just don't like the reasoning behind cheering for them. If you want to cheer for great hockey of course, we all want to watch great hockey! But.....I feel its like....say the Avalanche getting eliminted by Detroit in the first round and then all the Avalanche fans cheering on the Wings to the cup final......are you seriously telling me that's going to happen? Of course not! But that's what happened in Vancouver when the Flames booted them in the first round and then made their run to the cup final........why are you cheering for a team that is one of your home team's biggest rivals and also eliminated your home team from the playoffs?????I just don't get it.....maybe I'm just a dumb ignorant shit but when TB beat the Flames for the cup I cheered for TB cuz I dislike the Flames that much not because I like TB that much.... Viking 1 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 Yeah, this wanting a Canadian team to win thing is out of control. I remember Edmonton fans cheering for Calgary, and vice versa... I'd cheer for a team from Mars before I cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
big_bt 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 Once you're team is out, you need to cheer for someone. I'm never going to cheer for the leafs. But honestly, once you're team is out, pick one and root for them. That's hockey. Oh Vancouver gets knocked out first round, and then you just turn of the television and wait until next season? I don't think so. Hockey is for entertainment, you don't have to take it that seriously.
