Baking skates at home

Recommended Posts

I just got my KOR Shift 1's todat from HG. They feel really nice and I havent; baked them yet. I am ing to do them myself since I have a convection type oven. In lots of the instructions it says to get to temperature (180 or whatever) and then shut off the oven. Would that be the same for the convection oven or can I keep it running n the correct temp??

Thanks!

Mark

It has been pointed out that if you don't bake a high end skate, you aren't getting everything out of it you paid for.

I have a pair of Jr. Vapor40's that have been used about 4 times a week for 3 months. Never been baked. Perform very nicely. No issues.

Are there any downsides to doing so now?

I can tell you what my expirience was :)

at first I didn't bake my Sr 40s - I though the fit was "good" sitting @ home watching TV in the skates for an hour - after half hour on ice got 2 blisters

went on & baked the skates - fit improved substantially (could lace them tighter & don't cut circulation)

so I'd say if you can bake them cheap enough you should go for it - otherwise if you have no hot spots etc or baking is more then $20 then I'd leave it - especally after 3 month of use!

I'd be doing the baking at home in a convection oven. I'm leaning towards doing it.

With Jr. skates and growing feet, would it make any sense to bake them again as you get closer to growing out of them?
