DCott 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 Have you seen this site? It explains alot about the tournament. Individual players, not teams, go and are placed on teams based on region.http://www.hockeynightinbostoninc.com/
shooter27 116 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 HNIB is a summer showcase tournament for high school upper classmen (rising Juniors and Seniors). There are several tournaments like this around the country including the Chicago Showcase, Chowder Cup, Beantown Classic and a couple more. Up until the last 5 or 6 years HNIB was the premiere version of these summer showcases, but it has lost many of the top players to other showcases over the last several years primarily because it is extremely expensive. I think the consensus these days is the the top showcase is the Beantown Classic, but I could be wrong on that.HNIB consists of number of regional teams that are put together through regional try-outs around the country. The tournament pits these teams against each other for about 3 weeks in August, giving the players plenty of exposure to college and pro scouts. IIRC the preliminary round consists of 8 games and he playoffs are up to 4 more. As the tournament has lost players to other showcases the number of scouts in the preliminary rounds has begun to dwindle. The playoffs are still fairly well scouted and the All-Star weekend that takes places after the regular tournament playoffs is still extremely well attended. A few years back they used to bring in a Russian Jr. team to play in the All-Star weekend, but I'm not sure if they do that anymore.
mxihockey 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 It's a rip off. It used to be the best thing around but now it's right around the same time as beantown(All the scouts are at beantown). If you don't get an invite to beantown I suggest trying out for the summer tourny. If your looking to go to a prep school HNIB is ok because the coaches on the bench are mostly prep school coaches. chippa13 1844 Report post Posted April 7, 2008 HNIB has lost the luster it once had. It has become more of a money maker for the folks running the teams.
