Visor/cage combo fitting

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't notice this if no one told me, but a teammate of mine pointed out that my FX-50 sits at least half an inch away from my helmet J-clips (which are already adjusted so they come down as far as they'll go). Never looked in a mirror with the helmet on but it does look like my cage dangles pretty far away from the clips. And I already have the cage tightened so the chin cup is pretty tight against my chin already.

Is the cage just too small for my head? Or am I looking at a deeper helmet if I want the cage to be sitting closer to the J-clips? Is this even a problem?

My visor/cage didn't reach the j-clips on my helmet either and I just wound up taking them off. The combo just wasn't wide enough to slide far enough up on the temples of my helmet to reach the clips. I tried using metal j-clips too and every time it just stopped by the lower screw on the clips. So I just removed them and left the screws in to act as a stop or friction if I ever did get popped in the face. I haven't had any problems with it yet...but idk acout all the other technicalities.

I found the FX-50 to be more narrow than the Concept II where the j-clips are. I did manage to get it to sit up against the j-clips, but it squished the helmet around my temples and would gave me headaches. The problems went away after the helmet padding was broken in and compressed a bit in that region.

When they test helmets and cage combo's in Canada at the CSA they do not use clips on the helmets. They have never been including in any testing. They are an option on the helmet and not mandatory.

Are your cage hinges oriented so that the screws are down? i.e. the cage's top wire is on top? If not, turning your cage hinges this way might adjust the angle enough.
