Recommended Posts

shot at a goalie camp yesturday and both goalies at my net had red and black pads. made them look like paris hilton. on the other hand one of my buddies has white pads and i have a harder time scoring low on him, and hes not any better than the other 2.

a .990 save percentage? doubt that one.

i never said that i make saves with my other equipment i just said i dont let in soft goals through the 5 hole

So you're saying that a goal through the five hole is considered a softy then? Or what are you saying exactly :D

White pads do look good... with some marks the better.

If your worried about the marks try cleaning them once in awhile and white shoe polish will cover whatever marks you can't clean.

It's the 12" width - now that everyone's used to the look of 11" pads, everything 12" wide looks short and squat.

Nice VK's. :)

Diepetro wears all white pads, but he was told in the middle of the game he had to swtich them during the intermission because the white pads needed to be measured. Turned out they were legal, but white pads do look bigger

But that had nothing to do with the "look" of the pad. There was confusion as to whether or not the pads in question had been thru the correct channels for game usage.

I think it all just becomes a psychological thing and I guess some people just have mroe confidence when they think that the shooters have less to shoot at. My guess is that it's like a placebo effect or something.

first off... that is pretty retro on the bucket combo, does it hurt when you get hit dead on??

second. in my experience with different color pads i will say that the whites do look bigger to me, but also in defense of the people who say there is no difference.... the measurements are exactly the same no matter what the color, so i think there is somewhat of an illusion but i also think that it is up to the person looking at them to make the illusion appear.

try takin a look at pictures of goalies in the same pose, one with mostly white pads, one with mostly dark pads. might be able to see it if you look for it

yes.

even shots that arent hard, ring the bell pretty good.

i got some nasty dents in that cage.

pretty amazing how technologies progress over time when you compare old things to the newer stuff that had the same purpose.

Wow, this is an old thread.

I read an article in a local paper, that, to me, seemed quite well written with great quotes from people like Sonya Dibiase, Reebok’s goalie product manager, Kay Whitmore, the NHL’s goaltending supervisor, Chris Piku and Jocelyn Thibault among others. I'm sure most of this stuff is already known and out there, but here's a little coffee break read:

http://www.mississauga.com/sports/article/1589055--do-white-pads-give-goalie-unfair-advantage

Some highlights:

"Karen Muncey, CEO of Dynamic Edge Sports Vision Training, a company that works with athletes to improve visual skills such as peripheral awareness and hand-eye coordination, said it’s logical that white pads would be an advantage over darker ones...Muncey said she plans to launch a study this summer to determine what type of advantage white pads have over dark-coloured ones."

"“Stores have been purchasing all white,” said Sonya Dibiase, Reebok’s goalie product manager. “As a company where you want to have an identifiable brand and they white it all out, it’s starting to make all companies look the same.”"

"Dibiase told the Star late last week that rule changes regarding white goalie pads have been on the radar of Kay Whitmore, the NHL’s goaltending supervisor, although the league denies such a move is on the table."
