Best shop for getting skates fitted

Recommended Posts

I know about Hockey Giant and Monkey, but I'd like to go somewhere where I can have someone who knows what they're doing work with me.

Thanks

I've heard of a guy named Jake at Toyota Sports Center near LAX who is apparently knowledgeable. Though I've never been fitted by him first nor do I know the hours he works.

Jake's a pretty cool fella. Never got fitted by him, but was a pretty chill guy. I got fitted at Hockey Giant in Anaheim around 2 years ago, and I do not recommend them. Sized me a full size to big, and not in the model I had asked for. Which was the right size, hanging on the display rack.

At ultimate skate and hockey, at anaheim ice, the ducks practice facility, they have a guy named James who is very good at fitting skates. They specialize in graf though. I do not hockey giant or hockey monkey

James is good, as is Sandy (the owner).

Also, Quinn at EastWest Ice Palace in Artesia is very good and is a great sharpener.

I'm in Santa Barbara, so Orange County is pretty much my limit.

In San Luis Obispo there's Ice Warehouse. Never been to their shop but I've ordered from them in the past.

Let me vouch for IcePros in Escondido, and Jon from the San Diego Ice Arena. Jon's got this innate knowledge of what type of gear will best suit you and what's just hype. If you're up for the drive it's worth it.

The old Icepros owner, MF Shurman, skipped town owing a lot of people money. He took payment for many items, but never delivered on the goods. Now rumored to be in the Maryland/Philadelphia area, I would stay away from him at all costs.

The pro shop at Escondido is under new management which is very good, but they do not have many skates.

John at San Diego Ice Arena does the best fit in town and does excellent repair work.

Does the "MF" stand for "Motherf*cker?" Or are those his real initials?

Definitely his real initials.

It kinda sucks that MF left because ice pros was WAAAAYYY better under his management than it is now. They have almost nothing in there besides apparel for the jr. gulls

Hockeymonkey does have a couple guys who know what they're doing, you just have to make sure you ask for them. The first kid who helped me kept bringing the wrong model or size of skates. At least instead of trying to BS me he just admitted he didn't know anything about skates and called over a guy who did.
