Help with breaking in new skates

Recommended Posts

Ive recently picked up a pair of synergy 1500's and so far have skated on them twice,

Coming from mid level skates i am not yet used to the stiffness with these skates.

With this skate being a carbon boot will it ever break in, and become a little more forgiving on the forward stride?

I imagine anyone with 1300's or S15 can help me out on this on also!

Better get used to it. Those aren't like "traditional" skates. Think about the difference between how a wood stick fatigues and gets wobbly as opposed to a composit stick. Your skates will be the same - they will retain their stiffness far longer than an old school skate (although, I am not sure what you came from).

Hopefully, you'll get used to it. I tried the 1500's and ended up selling them on ebay. The heel was slightly sloppy (not too bad) but I had to tie the dang things so tight to make it feel like it was an extention of my foot that I ended up with bad lace bite.

Anyway, I don't think you're going to notice a change in stiffness even after a year of skating in them (your weight, frequency of skating, and skating style of course not taken into account). But, you will likely get used to it.

I came from easton synergy 700's and older vapors, which obviously are not as stiff as 1500.

Anyone feel my pain at first, but then come to love stiffer boots later on?

The inside padding should become less stiff after eight to ten games but as already stated don't count on the exterior to get any less rigid. It's composite carbon and has almost no give. Most protective skates on the market though and you'll appreciate that, when you get a slapper to the foot. Daniel Briere got a hard shot to the foot in a game just near the end of the regular season. It was a hard one too but he was on again the next shift. Can't imagine most other skates (except maybe the Supreme 0ne/90) you could have come right back on the ice again after that happening. Just hang in there with those 1500's, they'll take a little getting used to.

I went from the 1500's to S15's, and the break in period for the 1500's sucked. Immensely. After about 5 times on the ice, the pain went away, and I skated in them for a year with no problems whatsoever.

I have the 1300C's. Commonly known by some guys as the "ankle biters" however never had a problem with them myself. Still as solid on the outside as the day they where bought. One of the best fitting skates I've ever owned but very stiff, which is something I really don't mind. It took me quite some time to adjust to them though but still love the lightness on the ice. I wanted them to last me a while so I alternate them with my other skates playing two to three times a week. I was looking at the 1500's but ended up with Grafs because they where priced a little more reasonalbly. Won't be buying skates for quite a while now, I'm set for a few years.

I'm in a brand new pair of converted s11's right now and they are money. Until I get the inside materials broken in to how I like it, the only thing I've had to do is skate with the top 2 eyelets undone to get that forward flex I like til the tongue gets broken in also.

Like everyone else said though, the inside of the boot will break in to how you like it but the outside will stay pretty much as stiff as when you bought them. Hang in there, once you break them in, they are great skates. (I have also skated the 1200c's and 1500s).
