AnthonyJTa 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 i need a good place to get GOALIE skates sharpend since the place i usually go is closing (Pure Hockey)any good ones?thanksWhere exactly are you located? Charlie Jackson's Referee Crease in South Weymouth (100 Pond St, S. Weymouth MA 02190 if you need to Mapquest) does a real good job. May be a little out of the way for you, depending on which part of town you're coming from. They have odd hours too, so if you plan on going call first 781-331-1134. Zamboni 6 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 Skate sharpeners know each others 'work', that is they see skates from other sharpeners-know who else is good in the area. Speak with the guy doing your skates now, find out where he's going to work and which other sharpeners he recomends.
Kevin 5 Report post Posted May 9, 2008 There have been numerous posts about Bob and No-Icing Sports in Hudson, NH. I live in Boston and that's where I go. Give him a call or email him for the details on goalie skates.

qmechanic 17 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 I used to live in Boston and I don't know anyone who liked getting their regular (not goalie) skates sharpened at Sports Etc. I would be suspicious.
dmancam72 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 I agree with Kevin. No Icing is the best. I mail my son's blades from Northern Maine to Bob at no-icing and he is the best hands down.
Stephen11 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 The best sharpenings I've found in Boston is at Beacon Hill Skate Shop (which is nowhere near Beacon Hill - it's in Bay Village/South End). That's for regular skates though, don't know how he does goalie skates. If you work in Boston or are close by, it's a good option, but call ahead because the proprietor is a little flaky. It's probably too much of a rally if you're not already in town though. The sharpenings I got at Sports Etc were the worst - edges were so uneven. Ugh.Has anyone tried the All Sports place in Newton on Comm Ave?
Kevin 5 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Flaky is an understatement. Unless the owner does the work, you are in big trouble at Beacon Hill. I have called in advance only to have him walk out the door as I am walking in the door.N.B. This info. might be dated. After a couple hack jobs by his assistants/employees, I never returned. I was last there in 2004 or so.
Stephen11 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2008 Oy - that's good to know. I've only had Chris, the owner, do my skates. I'm still looking for another option because I don't work down there anymore. I might go the mail-order route.
dcdot377 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 i live in dorchester. i have gone to sports etc and they did a good job but it is a little far away. (30 mins)
the_game 452 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Granted its not too close to Boston, but I only trust Zwickers with my skates. Never had a bad sharpening there and they'll actually listen to you when you ask for a certain radius, hollow, etc.
