bauer one75 / vapor xxv compare to Old school bauer 4000?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, new to the site. Picked up hockey again after a 8 year hiatus. Played for 8 years staight before that. Last pair of Skates(stolen last week) were old school Bauer 4000 supremes from 1999 or so.

My question is, which of the two One75's or XXV's would be comparable? Or is there another choice? Looking for something good in the $300 or so price range, quick break in would be a plus.

More concerned on fit between the two. I know, visit the LHS, being the in valley of L.A. its over a 3 hour drive. Internet/shipping not a big deal for me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

P.s. did a fair bit of searching all day on all skate reviews and such, just looking for opinion between the old school and new school.

The 75 fits more like the ONE90. TO get something that will fit more like the Sup4000 try the ONE95 or last year's Supreme 70. Will most likely have to go down half a size. Don't bother with Vapor.

Having just made the jump myself from the 4000's, I think you will be far more satisfied with the Supreme's over the Vapors. I went with the One95. The one thing I did notice was the Vapors and the old Supremes seem to be a lower cut at the ankle than the One95's. Hasn't caused me any pain or problems though. I went from a 12d in 4000's to an 11.5d in the One95's.

I also had old school 4000's from I think '97 and used them up until this past winter after a few years away from the game. Anyway, I wanted a fit comparable to my old Supremes. I tried on quite a few different models like Graf 705, Ultra G5, XXV and XXXX, and ONE75. I ended up going with ONE75. The fit was a little narrower than the old 4000's but I felt it was better than the others I tried on.

I agree with JR, don't bother with the Vapor line. Just keep in mind that you will have to go down in sizing as the new boots are constructed differently. I went from a 8.5 in 4000's to a 7.5 in ONE75. So far I have no complaints and absolutely love the ONE75.

I just want to offer my confirmation for "Don't bother with Vapor" ( if you fit in old Supremes ) that has been offered by a couple previous posts....Since 2002 I have skated in the Bauer Surpeme 6500 - which has the last of the "old supremes". Then this March I bought the Vapor XXV's - and have had numberous "issues". But keep in mind the One95 where not out yet, and the 70's I heard where more of the Bauer 8090 last. Here are the issues:

1) Smaller toecap pinching big toe.

2) Low cut boot kind of "cutting" my upper ankle

3) Generally a touch more narror in forefoot area.

4) heals not locking too good.

I am trying to work through these issues, by "heat gun", "punching" and skating in them, but a good fitting skate usually fits right the first couple skates - believe me I know, I have had a few.....

P.S. don't get me wrong I am still skating fine, very good performance, but the pains here and there - got me thinking of changing....

Thanks for the replies. quick question oon sizing. My old 4000's i thought were 7's(dont know for sure they are gone) and I have a new pair of bauer mega 50 rollerblades in size 7, great fit, so for the one75's, i'll more likely need 6's or 6.5's?

It's hard to determine without trying them on. I would try both the 6 and 6.5. Though it's said that you should go down only a half size but after trying them on in a couple of different sizes I found that I had to go down a full size. It depends on your foot type and if you were fitted correctly the first time around. Also, if they feel tight anywhere I would recommend getting them baked as when I initially tried them on they were a little tight around the outsides of my feet and toes but once they were baked they fit perfectly.

wait so the one75 and the rest of the line doesn't fit like the 8090 except the one95s? I'm just really confused and wondering..

I dont have any pics of them. They are awesome, light and fit great on my feet. May not have them baked(thats new to me, when i played before never heard of baking) no pain, very responsive.

The pencil test i guess i fail kind of. The pencil will just rest against my ankle, no rocking. But they feel great. No complaints so far.
