mew1838 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 I will be attending U Michigan this coming fall. Where can I find some places for recreational hockey? How's the pick-up at the Cube? I don't want to be playing against triple A or junior players, just want something for screwing around.
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted May 20, 2008 I've skated at the Cube, but not in a drop-in setting. Nice rink.I'll be moving back to Orlando but still plan on doing the MSH MI Winter skate - maybe even at Yost.

jrhky36 1 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 I've skated at the Cube, but not in a drop-in setting. Nice rink.I'll be moving back to Orlando but still plan on doing the MSH MI Winter skate - maybe even at Yost.just make sure they turn on all the light. i played there a few years back and only had partial lights. the dressing rooms are about the size of a walk in closet. we needed 4 room for 30 guys, and it was still cramped. as far as the cube. as jr said its a nice barn. i forget if there is 3 or 4 sheets. but i do know the one is olympic. the national development team program plays out of the cube. played with a group that rented the ice. as for skill level at drop in if its during the day you won't see many AAA players as they will be in school. i think the same is true for NDTP players. besides whats the worst that could happen? you have a rotten time. if your going to U of M have you thought about playin intermaurals? peck12 1 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 I went to UW Madison and did intramural hockey, it was definitely the way to go. I would imagine UM has a similar program being a big hockey school like UW is. Check it out, I'm sure if you go to their athletic website there is probably a whole site dedicated to intramural sports.
irishdman12 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2008 +1 vote for intermural hockey. I play at Ohio State (not really a hockey school at all) and it's still a decent time. Just make sure you can stay awake for 1:15 am puck drops ;)
mew1838 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2008 Believe it or not, a school like U of M doesn't have intramural hockey.

ronnychencharik 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2008 Actually they do. There is a UofM league at the Cube that is for students only. For some reason the school was tired of taking care of it and delegated it to the Ice Cube. While it is not officially intramural, it really is.
lurkndestroy 1 Report post Posted October 9, 2008 How's the pick-up at the Cube?coming from someone who just got back on the ice a few months back after 10 years off, the drop in is pretty solid. ive been to a few saturday afternoon skates and the skill level is all over the board. mgoblue 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2008 Send me a PM with any questions you've got about hockey around here.I run an all-student team in an excellent local A-league - a bunch of solid student teams as well as some ex-pros who played at Michigan like Bill Muckalt and Dale Rominski. The cube is a great place to skate, but there are certainly other places to find ice (Vets, Yost, and Buhr - an outdoor rink)
