Fatty needs a wheel recommendation

Recommended Posts

I'm about 5'10", 260 lbs.

I play primarily at an old indoor roller rink with a wood floor that's been painted (probably the dirtiest indoor rink surface known to man) & occasionally on an outdoor smooth-as-glass concrete rink.

I did search the forum, but most people's recommendations were based on a sport court surface, which I've never played on. I don't know how it compares to the surfaces I play on.

My new Nike Bauer XXR Lites just showed up today, & I will probably be looking to go to a 72-72-80-80 setup instead of the 72-72-78-80 setup (with Hyper Unity Shift 76A wheels) that comes on them.

Until I got the XXR's I was skating on some CCM V4.0's (with Rink Rat VT733 76A wheels) with the 72-86-76-80 "Tri-di" setup, which I didn't care too much for. They wore well, & seemed to grip pretty good on the concrete, but I slide allot in tight or hard turns indoors.

I'm a little concerned about dual pour wheels since I'm so heavy.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

what about some some 80a indoor wheels like MB816s or Hornets.

Wouldn't those provide less grip than the 76A's?

There is a reciprocal relationship between wheel durometer and personal weight. The heavier your are the more support will be needed by your wheels (harder durometer) to keep them lasting longer and nut buckling or deflecting during your skating and hard cuts. 80a sounds like a decent place for you to start with.

And with regards to you sliding while indoors.....chances are that is ocurring due to a lack of upkeep of the surface. Your best bet is to ask the manager for a dust mop to clean the surface real quick. You are probably sliding everywhere due to a layer of dust on the playing surface.

I agree with spreedizzle, you need some harder wheels. 80a as recommended.

Go with some hornets or hotshots... I'd stay clear of the MB816 due to weight restrictions.

TLR,

I would avoid the Hornets. I'm a fat dude too and I had problems with the Hornet hubs separating from the wheel in weird ways. The Hot Shots are working great for me.

Hope this helps

F&S, have you been running 80A's?

Yes I'm runnning with 80A durometer. But I'm also playing on SportCourt; I have never played on wood surface. Not really sure how Hot Shots will perform on a wood floor. Just an FYI, I use RinkRat World Cups for outdoor.

Hope this helps

225 or pure muscle 78A 80A 80A 78A is the way I fly. I have used MB816, Hornets, Hotshorts. All perform about the same. Have had good success and catastrophic seperation with each(usually taken care of by RR). An all 80A setup has caused me to loose to much flexibility and pivoting. When going outdoor may I suggest the 84A World Cup. Which IMHO plays like an indoor wheel outdoors

I found the Rinkrat Worldcups! They are a 84a (?) but grip more like a softer weel. I blow out weel like crazy, but I found these to be great.
